New Surgery NOV 3

Hello Ladies, I had a Partial TAH in 2006. They took my right ovary and my uterus. I still continued to have mini periods, which was better than what I had, but still after all you go through to have the hysterectomy and then you still have a period is alittle discouraging. Well it's been 2 years and all was good till about 6 months ago. I thought I had pulled a muscle in my lower back, but after quite awhile the pain wasn't going away and it was now rediating into my lower pelvic area on my left side. Well finally after seeing my doctor, she set me up to have a back xray and pelvic ultra sound. Well they found a 7cm cyst that is surrounding my left ovary. I was sent to see my gyno who had me do a CA-125 test and have a ct scan. they both came back fine, but am scheduled to go back in and have abdominal incision again to remove left ovary and tube with cyst. My question for all of you is this: Should I have my cervix removed this time as well and is the ca=125 test accurate? I was reading alot about the test and alot of the symtoms that I am having remind me of someone with ovarian cancer, but the symptoms can be coming from other things as well. Also can the CT scan show scar tissue and adhesions or will that be something my doctor will find once she is in there?

Thank you for your support.
Hugs to all
Tammy

New Surgery Nov 3rd - ovarian cyst

I had a TVH RSO on Sept 24 due to a 6 cm ovarian mass, the mass was solid with cystic components, which is usually not a good sign. My CA 125 also came back in the normal range(high end of normal, but still normal) I was so nervous going into surgery, the fear of the unknown was driving me crazy.
Thankfully the mass was benign!! The Dr. did the TVH at the same time although I had never had any problems with uterus or cervix...at 43 he thought this was the best thing to do. Keep the faith and think positive thoughts...although I know how very hard that is. To keep your cervix or not is a personal choice, but based on all you have gone through I would think having it removed at the same time would be a good choice.

New Surgery Nov 3rd - ovarian cyst

dear charma...i really don't know how to advise you so i'll just briefly tell my experience. i had a 4 cm. mass on my r ovary...surgery confirmed it was malignant as well as spread to both ovaries, one fallopian tube and peritoneum. uterus, ovaries, tubes and omentum (omentum benign) removed, along with bowel re-section as my uterus was attached to my bowel via adhesions. the gyn/onc decided to NOT remove my cervix. it's been over a year and a half since my surgery and a year after finishing chemo and all is well with me.

what was the reason you had your uterus and one ovary removed and what was the pathology (benign or malignant)? the ca125 is not necessarily a good indicator of ovca prior to diagnosis as it can be elevated for other reasons...also for some people with ovca, it can show a low level. it is best used to monitor while undergoing chemo to see if it's working...certainly not a perfect test.

regarding adhesions, they did not show up on my c.t. scan i had prior to surgery but were evident during surgery. if you have reason to suspect cancer, then it's recommended that you have a gyn/onc perform the surgery for lots of important reasons. wish i could be more helpful but not much can be assessed until surgery, then waiting for the finalized pathology report after. remember to get copies of pertinent reports so you can read them over yourself. wishing you all the best for a successful surgery and that it's not cancer. please come back and let us know how it goes. take care.

New Surgery Nov 3rd - ovarian cyst

Tammy,

Wishing you good luck tomorrow. I hope that cyst is benign; Did they do a vaginal ultrasound? They can tell a lot about a cyst with that .

Did you end up consultign a gyn/onc?
Please come back and let us know how things went. I hope you have an easy recovery!
