Mets to bladder, part 2

Just got back from the appointment with the urologist, and the news does not appear to be good. They did a cyctoscope exam and when he was done he said the good news is that there seems to be relatively little damage to the bladder from the radiation (which is what was possibly causing the blood in the urine). So of course I am then waiting for the other shoe to drop, and sure enough, he says, however the bad news is there seems to be some sort of growth in the bladder, and based on your history with carcinosarcoma I think it is most likely a malignancy. But, he goes on the good news is that it is very mobile, and generally when we see bladder cancer or mets to the bladder the tumor is firmly adhered to the bladder and very hard to remove. This does not appear to be that way. But, the only way to know for sure is surgery. So, they have me scheduled for what is basically outpatient surgery on Nov. 3. Surgery will be thru the urinary tract, no cutting/incisions, and will take approx. 45 minutes.

This of course was not the news that I wanted to hear, but hopefully it is small and was caught early and will not cause any more problems once it is removed. I of course asked about follow up treatment, but naturally he would not even venture a guess on that until it is staged.

My gyn/onc was at a different hospital, two hours away, but I guess I need to call his office and inform them of what is going on. I don't really want to see him, as he will want the urologist at his hospital to do the surgery, and I don't feel that is necessary. I liked the Dr. I saw today and trust this whole medical practice.

(((Bonnie))) I am so sorry you are faced with another surgery but the fact it is a small, mobile mass and apparently was caught early bodes well that the operation will eliminate it all.
Confidence in one's doctor is very important and your desire to stick with this new doc and his practice is very understandable and your other doctor should honor this.
I'll be keeping you in prayer and sending positive thoughts too.

Gosh, Bonnie, I am so sorry they've found another tumor. It does sound easily operable. I can't imagine doing surgery through the urinary tract. Heavens how can they do that?
I'm squeezing my legs thinking about it. I do wish Nov 3 goes easily for you and you will quickly return to your normal routine.

Bonnie:
Wishing you nothing but success with this setback... and remember... it still has the possibility of being benign. I am hoping and praying this is the case.... Keep us informed... Time to get the goats out again.

Good Luck to you Bonnie. I will keep my fingers crossed that all will turn out well for you on the 3rd. Keep your chin up sister and try not to stress too much until you know for SURE what you are dealing with. Like someone else said it could be benign....it NOT being firmly attached to the bladder wall IS a good sign.(((hugs)))

You're in my thoughts too, Bonnie. I really didn't want there to be a Part 2 to this story, but glad to hear that you have confidence in your doctor and in the process. That goes a long way.

Bonnie - so very sorry to hear that you're facing the diagnosis again. I'm hopeful that the bad news will have a good news angle once you get into surgery. You'll be in my prayers.
