Abnormal Pap after Cervical Cancer Treatment

Hi Ladies. Has anyone had a pap come back abnormal after treatment? I am scheduled for surgery Dec. 10 so that they can finish the hysterectomy that was aborted last time when they found the positive nodes. But the surgery was originally scheduled by my choice because of the pain my uterus is causing. Now I find out the pap came back abnormal and the doctor is not longer making it optional. Any experience with this unwelcome turn of events?

I had chem/external and internal rads for vaginal cancer. I have been told that the radiation can cause the paps to come back abnormal. I am such a constant worrier, I would have no problem if my dr. said I had to have a hysterectomy. But everybody is different and we have to make decisions that best suit our situation. I'm sorry you are faced with this situation though.

Thanks, I didn't know radiation makes paps come back abnormal! I am a worrier too, so I am secretly happy to have the surgery, I figure I will have a definate answer about whether the cancer is back or not. Sick, I know, happy to have surgery!
