Preparing for total hysterectomy.... really nervous!

I am scheduled for a total hysterectomy including removal of both ovaries on 12/5 due to long term endometriosis, heavy bleeding, and now a "mass of unknown substance" on my ovaries. I have a strong family hx of breast CA. I am 38 wife and mom of a 3 and 4 year old. I want to be able to talk intellegently with my MD but the internet is so loaded with info on HRT's. Any advise. I'm really nervous both ways.

Make sure you communicate with your MD. Getting all the information you can will help. It's really important that you have support and care at home. Especially when you come home from the hospital. I'm 4 weeks post op and starting to feel better. I've had some severe hot flashes and one really big crying spell. The Doctor gave me hormone pills but I'm still opting not to use them. Because of all the side effects. I would like to try it without them. Just remember it's very important to listen to how your body feels not how everyone wants you to feel. Relax and God bless

Thanks for the support and advise! I really appreciate it! The listening to myself and not to others as well as the "relaxing" is likely to be the hardest part! Nice to know I'm not alone in this!

My Doctor told me he will only take my overies out if I confirm that I will take the hormone pills or the patch probably until I'm 65. He said they will help to maintain my bones, heart and brain.
No you are not alone in this. We are right here with you.

I also share your anxiety. I am 5 weeks post op. Abdominal hyst / no ovaries. (I don't know all the abbreviations yet) My mother is a survivor of Breast Cancer '07. I shared my concern with my Dr. he put me on Vivelle Dot 0.1mg patch right after surgery. Talk to him about all your concerns. Good Luck!
