Cold right before surgery...

As if things couldn't be worse, I've developed a cold in the day or two leading up to surgery. I have irritated throat and ear symptoms, sore throat, and nasal drip running down, that will no doubt cause some congestion. I am going in for surgery 730 Monday morning, and I am trying to pump myself full of as much immune system aids/vitamin C in the past two days. Do you know if this will impact my surgery? Anesthesia? I have endometrial cancer, and put off the surgery for five weeks to do fertility treatments, and I really can't risk putting it off any longer.

Any ideas/experiences/advice?

Cold right before surgery...

I wish there was some advice to give, or help. But wanted to offer you ((hugs)) and let you know that someone is thinking about you.

Can you call the doc or the hospital for suggestions? They can at least tell you what you should not have prior to the surgery. I know some won't allow certain painkillers, etc.

Let us know what they say.

Hugs,
Buzylady

Cold right before surgery...

Hi Efeli

I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this amongst everything else you have had to cope with.

Please ring your Dr or hospital and see what they advise. I know that many people have gone through surgery while recovering from a cold but each case is individual.

Make sure you have a small pillow for straight after surgery, especially if you have coughs or sneezes. It will hurt anyway but having that pressed against your tummy will help.

I have my fingers crossed that everything will go well for you and am sending you huge hugs

Cold right before surgery...

I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this extra worry. There's an article here that deals with this issue:
http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_96905.htm

One thing that it mentions is that some vitamins may compromise your surgery ( vitamin C is mentioned ). Please call your dr and let him/her know about your illness and what all you've taken. Be cautious, don't risk your health.
