back/neck pain/spasms - normal?

hi everyone,
i had tah bso on 9/17. about 2 weeks ago i started having back pain that is mostly from mid back to upper back and in between shoulders and into my neck. sometimes (even when i am just sitting) it spasms so that it really hurts - takes a moment for me to move to a different position to try to relieve it. i am back to work as of alomst a week ago. is this normal? is it because my abs arent supporting me right yet so i have to use more back muscles?
i'd like to get a massage - would that work maybe? i also am afraid to lay on my stomach yet - hence, massage table.
any thoughts? suggestions?
thanks in advance sisters!
