strange questions.....
Not sure if this is the right section, but here goes....
I had a total hysterectomy in May 2008 (all girly parts gone). I am not on anything, hormone replacement, etc. I take a multivitamin pack from GNC for menopause and that is it. Now, the strange question is this, I can't explain any other way than my hair follicles are on fire!!!
It's not the water, shampoo, conditioner, etc, nothing has changed there. So, is this a normal symptom or unusual symptom. It feels like where your hair grows is sunburned and I swear I smell something????
Strange, I know, but I don't know what to do about this and it is driving me crazy. It has gotten worse in the past month or so.

strange questions.....
Hi chubbles Not sure what you mean by "all girly parts gone" - my "girliest" part is my brain, and I kept that when I had my surgery, although there were definitely a few days there when I wasn't so sure. You said you had a total hyst. Did you also have your ovaries removed? That is a BSO, which is a separate procedure often done at the same time.
It sounds like the way your body experiences low estrogen is in this sensation in your follicles. Not everyone feels hot flashes the way they are usually described - I don't. When my estrogen level gets too low, I get sort of an electric buzzing sensation under my skin all over. Some others get itchy everywhere. It is really an individual thing.
Was the no HRT a conscious decision on your part, or just something that happened? Is it something you'd consider? How is your DR monitoring your bone density, given that you're not on any HRT? Bone loss during the first year without ovaries tends to occur at an accelerated rate; estrogen, with calcium and Vitamin D, can help restore bone mass even if some loss has already occurred.
I would suggest talking with your DR soonest.

strange questions.....
Hi Surferbabe,
I was reading and when you said, "electric buzzing sensation under my skin" I yelled!! That's it!! Does it make your muscles twitch and make you want to scream?--like you've had too much caffeine? It's been a year since my LSH/BSO and I'm on 2.5mg Biest and 1mg Testosterone cream. I'm also beginning to have more dryness. Do you mind saying your dosages?
Thanks so much

strange questions.....
Yes, that's it... I felt like someone had plugged me into a light socket. So, of course I couldn't sleep, either.
I use Vivelle-dot 0.1mg/day, a little tiny bit of progesterone cream nightly (OTC 750mg/ounce), Vagifem maybe once a week if that, and testosterone cream 1% as needed, which is almost never (though I had to use it nightly at first). Also take DIM (diindolylmethane) 100mg 2x/day, which affects my estrogen/testosterone balance.

strange questions.....
Thank you so much. I should probably return to taking DIM -- did that at first, but slacked off. It's time for some "testing", but I haven't had time to make the appointment (doc is out of town...ughh..)
Thanks again so much. That makes so much sense.
