Upcoming Surgery

Hi, this is my first post and I am having my surgery on Nov. 24th. Diagnosis is complex hyperplasia with atypia so was recommended that I have a total with everything removed. I am nrevous about what they will find. Any help would be appreciated to prepare.

Upcoming Surgery

I had everything removed and my bladder needed support. I had debated about the ovaries, but they had cysts that were uncomfortable, so I decided to have them taken out. My thoughts are one less thing to get cancer! If you have them removed then you don't need to worry about them anymore. Of course check with your Dr. and do research. If you are close to menopause then it might be an easier decision than if you are in your 20's. I am 45 and was already experiencing symptoms of menopause. My periods were changing, I started getting mild "warm" spells, especially at night.

Get as much information as you can, ask questions, Do you have family history of cancer? risk factors? ask what your options are and then go with what makes the most sense to you and your Dr.

You need to feel comfortable with the decision and know that you have checked out the options.

Lots of great information here at Hystersisters!

May you get the information you need and be at peace with your decision.

Upcoming Surgery

Iam having everything out as there is a chance of cancer and a 20-60% in 5 years so not much choice. I am already 59 and through menopause since 2002 .

Same initial diagnosis

Hi. I had the same initial diagnosis and we are about the same age. I did a lot of reading in the month I waited to have my TAH/BSO and found that there was a chance that there could be a co-existing cancer with the hyperplasia, so I was somewhat prepared for the pathology that came after my hysterectomy. I did have an very early stage endometrial cancer and have been told that the surgery is all that is necessary, with a very low chance of recurrence. No one wants to hear the word cancer, and I've had my bad moments since, but I'm trying to put my energy into recovery and into believing that I was proactive and we found this cancer in time for my prognosis to be good.

I had my 25 year anniversary of a breast cancer diagnosis while I was in the hospital.

Wish there were magic words of reassurance....Know that you are doing what will give you the best possible chance of being healthy. Trust your Dr. You might try posting on the cancer concerns board. There were wonderful hystersisters there who responded to my posts and helped me to get my bearings when I really needed a little support.

My best wishes to you....

Barb A.
