Peeling around incision

I am peeling around my incision, kind of like a sun burn does, not like just dry skin flaking? Is this normal? What could I use on it? My MD is on vacation until next week, I don't think it would be a reason to call his MD covering for him.
Thanks!
Debbie

Vitamin E

Debbie,

I've been putting a Vitamin E ointment on my incision since I took the little strips off of it, and I really believe it's helping. Except for being red (and it will be awhile before it fades), it's nice and smooth and looks good (for an incision). I picked it up at GNC in the beauty aid section. Cost about $6.00 and I still haven't gone through half of it. My hyster was July 2nd. Take care and good luck on your recuperation.

Peeling around incision

Mine is peeling as well. Glad to know I'm not the only one. I had fluid build-up under incision and bleeding/oozing for a week so I had to wear pads (AGAIN -- thought that was OVER!!!) and use hydrogen peroxide and water to keep the area clean. I guess I've been more concerned about the fluid than the peeling, but it's sure nice to know I'm not alone on this issue.

Do you still have the steri strips?

I developed an allergic reaction to the steri strips and my incision got very inflammed and later infected.

The doctor put me on antibiotics and told me to clean out the incision with peroxide. As it started healing, it started peeling. I thought maybe the peeling was due to the allergic reaction I had but maybe not.

Anyway, he told me NOT to use any ointment or creams of any kind on the incision as that keeps it moist and acutually hinders the healing process.

Peeling around incision

I never had steri strips, but I did have a reaction to the staples where it had pus and was very inflammed, maybe that is why I am having the peeling. I, too, was told to put peroxide on the areas, which probably dried it out too. Glad to know that I am not the only one.
