HRT concerns

I really do not want to go on it (for personal reasons). Do they give it to you while you are in the hospital?

Doc's differ on this so it is best to discuss your wishes and concerns with your doctor "before" the surgery. My personal experience was that the doc's asssitant came in with a patch once I was in my room. Actually, it may have been the following day. Anyways, it was fairly soon after the surgery.

Hi Disney, I really think HRT is up to YOU, they can't just give it to you. With that said... I am 47 yrs old, and will be having a total hysterectomy in the near future. I have really been researching HRT a lot, and I feel comfortable that short term use is okay. I am hopeful that within a year I will be just about off. I think 'cold turkey' is not something I want to go through! My sister is going through natural menopause now... well, she stopped the pill suddenly (age 50) 1 month ago and is struggling! She is depressed (she is not normally a depressed person) she is emotional, and suffering from insomina and hot flashes all day and night sweats all night. She also researched this and finally is giving in and plans to do a short term. She did NOT want any HRT, but.... she is miserable!

Anyway - it's 100% up to you, and some women don't have such severe symptoms - so you won't know until you try, but if things get really hard, don't close your mind to a little help to balance you until your body takes over!

Good Luck!

Thank you both. Well I just recently found out from my mom that she has had high blood pressure and my grandmother also had breast cancer. I am just worried that is all. It is something that I don't want to do. But my dr is not a very nice doc. I am going in for surgery on the 17th of this month. So next Monday.

As others have said, the choice is ultimately up to you. My Dr. did not start me on premarin until 1 week after surgery. Please discuss your concerns and family history with your Dr., and do not feel pressured to take HRT if you are not truly comfortable with it.

As everyone has said the choice is up to you but I can't tell you how much better I feel on the patch. (vivelle dot 0.1mg) I have researched too and found that women are prone to bone problems with the shock of surgical menopause and it's not good for the body. As for the breast cancer issue if you do decide to go on HRT then you just simply keep on top of your mammograms and do your home checks weekly if it makes you feel better. I am in no way dismissing your fear, but I also know that many women feel simply awful after surgical menopause and it's not good to go cold turkey with no estrogen in the body at all like that.

Just my thoughts, like I said I would never judge you, it's always your right to use it or deny it.

Hope all goes well

Sandy

Thanks everyone for the comments. This is something that I am just going to have to decide on. I have to weigh out the pro and cons. My Sil had a TAH and she is the same age as I am. We are both 29. She had hers 2 years ago, and she is not on any HRT. She does the bone density test and other things to make sure she is healthy and fine.

But thank you all very much!!
