enterocele, rectocele, intussesception

I had a partial hysterectomy almost 5 yrs ago and also required bladder repair due to many prolapses (bladder, uterus, and cervix)

I am now scheduled for surgery in 3 weeks to repair a massive enterocele, a rectocele and now an intussesception. My uro-gynocologist is doing the pelvic floor repairs and resecuring the intestines, bowel and rectum.

I see the rectal surgeon on Thurs for another series of diagnostic tests...already had a defacography with showed the intussesception and nerve damage.

I know I won't know much until after Thursday;s appt. I do know that he is removing part of the intestines/bowel (?) Not sure how much? Don't know all that is involved. He may use a surgical procedure called a STARR.

I'm so very nervous and anxious about all of this. Has anyone been through this. What should I expect? Could there be a temporary colostomy in place till the the bowel heals.

Any insight, support would be so grateful appreciated.

I was here once before but have since lost my user name, etc and my email addy changed. I will come back and update more.

Just feeling so overwhelmed.

Thank you again.

enterocele, rectocele, intussesception

I had this same surgery in May of 2005. Five months before I had undergone a paravaginal repair, rectocele and cystocele repair (both abdominally and vaginally repaired).

I had almost 2 ft of my colon removed during the surgery. I think most people end up having some of the colon removed during the resection. I did not have a colostomy. I spent 9 days in the hospital total--3 days in ICU. I won't lie, it was a hard surgery to go through and a hard one to recover from.

I haven't seen too many people on here who have gone through this type of surgery.

Hugs
Becky
