Red face - Progesterone After Hyst With Overies? Progesterone After Hyst With Overies?

I am 3 weeks post op and am very leary of taking premarin. I have heard that progesterone is something that is good to take. What do you think? Also I have been having chest pain right behind the sternum. It has been going on for over a week. Dr. isn't concerned. It isn't like a sharp pain more like a constant ache. Anyone else have this?

Thanks
Chiro1

You are still very early post op, you may not need anything. I would give yourself some time before you start using any hormones. That said; progesterone alone is unlikely to help with some symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes.

Wink - Progesterone After Hyst With Overies? Progesterone After Hyst With Overies?

Hi Chiro1!!

Like you I am experiencing some meno-like symptoms.....I am almost 4 wks post op ovaries intact....2 days after surgery I started having intense hot flashes, anxiety attacks, headache and cold chills....in fact symptoms were so bad I had to go on ativan to take the edge off...my gyn also wanted to put me on premarin right away....I decided to have some bloodwork done first to see how my hormones are functioning before starting any replacement also I have noticed in the last week my symptoms have lessened considerably...so I think it may be just a waiting game after all....try putting off the premarin for a little while longer and see if things balance out...if your ovaries wake up a little more....good luck and I hope things get better...you are not alone!!

Progesterone After Hyst With Overies?

I also think its very early to tell if you will need hormones or not. My gyne tried me on Premarin at week 6 but this did nothing for me. I was on Progesterone for nearly 6 months prior to my surgery and hated it. It IS the PMS pill and I also put on 12 pounds. I know everyone is different but I hated that med!! My gyne just tried to get me take it again to see if this would help some of my symptoms grrr

Progesterone After Hyst With Overies?

Just an FYI, that there is a difference between progesterone and progestin. I was given Provera (progestin) before I had the hyst to try and help with bleeding issues. I didn't do well on it. But I now use a "progesterone" which I have done well with. The two are often used interchangably, but they are definetly NOT the same.
