Anyone taking NORETHINDRONE for abnormal uterine bleeding

Hello,

Wondering if anyone is taking or had taken Norethindrone 5mg daily (generic for Aygestin) for abnormal uterine bleeing.

I have post-menopause 6 years - have had some uterine bleeding. Diagnosed after Biopsy and D&C with Simple Hyperplasia. First HRT was medroxyprogesterone - which made me very sick and bled for 14 days non stop. Had to have a D&C to stop bleeding.

Doctor wants to try the Norethindrone - thinks I will tolerate it better. My question is: what is the best time to take this - morning, bedtime????

I am so scared to take it, as I got so very sick from the last HRT. But I do not have an alternative at this point. I am not a good candidate for a Hysterectomy as I have had extensive abdominal surgery which could be a problem.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this medication and perhaps send a few pointers to me.

When I used a progesterone I was told to try taking it at bedtime to reduce side effects and to try taking with food if it causes stomach upset. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist might have some suggestions for you if you're having trouble with it. Sometimes side effects are temporary, which might make things a tad easier to deal with if you know they "should" improve. I hope it's not a repeat performance of your last medication trial. I was on the Norethendrone about 4 years ago- I took it at bedtime as well. It did not work for me, then put me right on the lupron and surgery after that as well. I am now scheduled for a TAH Wed the 10th. So I wish you the best of luck
