Umbilical Hernia and Hysterectomy surgery at the same time????

Hello Fellow Sisters!
I am new here, and in desperate need of information. I have a very large umbilical hernia and need mesh screen surgery. I also have a calcified uterus with a large seven inch *blob* in it. I am 57 and in need of both surgeries. Some say I can get both surgeries at the same time. Some surgeons say no. One is a *dirty* surgery and one is not.
I really do not want to be cut from hip to hip twice, if it canbe avoided. PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE WHAT TO DO!

Umbilical Hernia and Hysterectomy surgery at the same time????

If they plan to cut you hip to hip just to fix your umbilical hernia then I think you might you need another Dr! My husband had a umbilical hernia the size of a grapefruit and they fixed it and put in mesh through a small smile shaped incision right under his belly button, we were shocked when we saw how small the incision was! It was done out-patient, so he was home in just a few hours, and back to his onery self within days! If they must use the larger incision I don't see why they wouldn't prefer to get you all fixed up in one surgery. But, it all boils down to what is the safest and best option for you, and what you and the surgeon are most comfortable doing, getting a second openion wouldn't hurt.

my umbilical hernia was repaired thru my belly button...i cant even see the incision. you shouldnt have to be cut hip to hip because of an umbilical hernia. it was just an outpatient procedure for me...easy recovery. i dont know if it can be done at the same time as your hysterectomy though. what does your gyn surgeon say?
