Wasn't prepared for the gas. Suggestions?

Surgery early AM Wed Dec 3, can't remember the technical term but the whole kit and kiboodle is now gone. (!)

I was not prepared for the terrible gas pains; although I am starting to pass a little gas now my tummy is swollen and I can hear and definately feel movement inside.....I am starting to pass some gas and know each day it will get better. When I stand up it is like feeling everything drain south. Same if I am laying down and shift to the left.

BUT, I was not prepared for amount this gas pain. Been walking as much as I am able, today I can shower and take dressing off so I know that will move me forward. Eating a little, not much frankly, I don't have much of an appetite and feel a bit nausious with food so am being careful. drinking water, juices, tea and nothing carbonated.

Otherwise feel quite good but am stunned at the gas pain. Anyone any suggestions?

So glad all of you have been here through all of this. I have learned so much and have been amazed to see how many women share this experience.

I followed the advice of the systers here and I took Gas Ex three times a day with meals. Day 3 into 4 were my weird gassy days... I thought I'd fly up like a helium balloon. But the Gas Ex just seemed to break it all into tiny little pass-able bubbles! And then it was just funny to be breaking wind constantly for 2 days in a row.

That being said... day 5 ended up being my first poop day... so you might want to start preparing for that now. The walking is great, apple juice, applesauce, prunes, chocolate covered raisins (yum!), Kashi high fiber cereal... avoid cheese, red meat, and carbonation (you said you're already careful there so keep it up.)

I've just passed the 4 week mark and things are just beginning to settle down. Still have to be really careful about cheese.................... ((HUGS))

I too have that feeling when you stand up everything moves south. I have had such bad gas pains a couple of times right before I need to have a BM. Then I go and it is a normal BM at first and finish with gassy loose stools. I have also been having bladder urges all the time. My stomach by the end of the day feels bloated and looks like I am pregnant. I wonder now if that is the swelly belly or the gas? Could the gas be pressing on my bladder making me feel the urge to pee all the time? I have an appointment with the urologist tomorrow, I think I will ask all those questions. I am almost 4 weeks out and think things should be better by now. Glad to hear someone else has the shifting south feeling.

Walk, walk & walk some more, it will really help with the gas pains and with BM's.

I didn't have much of an appetite for a while after. Just try to eat little & often.

Gas-X & as much as you don't feel like it, slow walking is the best thing you can do.

I agree. Gas X throughout the day, and gravity to help bring on the BMs. If you can't get much walking in, just standing might help as well. Warm beverages can help calm the system down better than cold.

In addition to the walking and Gax Ex don't forget to take a fiber supplement. I took Benefiber after suffering thru 3 days of severe gas pains, and it made all the difference in the world.

Hope this helps.
