Dissolvable stitches, not dissolving

I had a DaVinci hysterectomy on October 31st, five small incisions. They were stitched with dissolvable stithes which still haven't dissolved. I'm concerned that I can feel them and one is open and rather moist. Any ideas?

If it were me I would ring my gyno.

I think it would be a good idea to let your doctor know. He/She might want to take a look at things.

Just to let you know my experience, my stitches also did not dissolve completely. I had about 4 stitches in 2 incisions that my body decided to expel instead of dissolve. So I literally had strings hanging out of me for a few weeks. I can't remember now what week they first appeared. As long as there was no sign of infection my doctor was fine with just letting them do their thing. It made the incisions take a little longer to heal but everything is fine now. All I had to do was wait it out. But I did have my doctor check them out when they first appeared. Its kind of freaky, isn't it? I joked that I was coming apart at the seams!

LSH due to adenomyosis, endo also found.

Thanks, Cindy. Did they finally go away or did your gyno need to snip them? I also feel as though I'm coming apart at the seams and I'm concerned about the stitches that are internal because I had my cervix removed as well. Thanks again. Cindy

Dissolvable stitches, not dissolving

Hi, Cindy -
They did finally go away on their own. Just when I was convinced they wouldn't ever go away, they fell out. With all of my post surgery anxieties, I had convinced myself that I was going to need another doctor's appointment if I ever wanted to be rid of them. Plus, as long as they were there I was worried about getting an infection. But thankfuly that didn't happen. Recovering from this surgery is such a stressful time! Hang in there!

Dissolvable stitches, not dissolving

I had a LAVH on November 5. My gyno told me that my stitches were the kind that would take 4-6 months to dissolve. I have only two stitches inside, so these longer lasting stitches were used. I guess there are more than one type of stitch!
