pain after intercourse

I had a vaginal hysterectomy in Aug. 08. Kept my ovaries though. Have been great except for severe pain only after intercourse that can last up to 2 days. Never any pain during, but immediately after. I can barely walk after. Have had cauterization done to remove scar tissue but still pain. Had a pelvic ultrasound that showed my ovaries were fine. Any one out there with similar experience and what were the findings if any? The Dr is going to refer me to a GI, thinking my bowels may have been damaged or something from the surgery.
