Sex After the Hyster

My biggest fear is that after my LAVH w/ovaries I won't feel like a woman to my husband anymore. I am a very flirty person and very passionate about my sexual relationship with my husband and I don't want to loose that. I'm afraid that I may feel more like a blow up doll to him than a woman. My mother had her hyster at 32 and her concerns were much different than mine as I am an only child, so I can't really ask her how she dealt with these feelings. I have already asked her what her biggest concerns were after the hyster and explained mine and she can't relate. What have you guys been told? Do you worry about the same thing? Has anyone given you any idea how to deal with these feelings or how to make sure this doesn't happen?

Sex After the Hyster

Spring411-
I am not sure the causes for you needing the surgery, but let me just share with you that I feel sooooo much better that our sex life has just gotten better. I had so much discomfort with intercourse that I wasn't into it too much for the past year.
I feel so much better physically. I am able to exercise again and have toned up and dropped some weight and feel sexier than ever. My most recent problem is that dh and I had sex three times over the weekend and I am a bit sore from to many times in a short period of time probably from dryness. I posted a question about it yesterday and that seems to be what those that replied think too.

I understand about having no one to talk to, my mom died 18 years ago and I don't have any sisters either. I just love this site.

Do you have a date for surgery yet?

Sex After the Hyster

No official surgery date yet. I had my gallbladder removed on 11/20 and during the surgery they found a cyst on my right ovary about the size of a golf ball. I live in TX just moved here about a year ago and will be going back to GA for my hyster. I don't know the hospitals around here and I really would feel more comfortable with my OB in GA doing the surgery. Plans are to stay with my mom for 2 weeks and then fly back home. This is why there is no official date yet lots of planning to do. My gyno history is basically ab pain, heavy bleeding and excessive clotting, several fibroids and now cysts. For me it's genetic, maternal grandma's uterus was falling out (don't know what that's called) and she had it straped up about 40 yrs ago and then had uterian cancer about 10 years ago and had hyster in her 60s. Mom and Aunt had hyster in their 30s.

Sex After the Hyster

My mom had a hyst done too. She had an enlarged uterus and fibroids as I did. But I also had ovarian cysts. I had one the size of a cantaloupe. That is why I was so uncomfortable. I also had endo and adhesions. Dr said my right side was a mess with my ovary, bladder and intestine grown together.
My mom had a rare form of cancer that originated in her appendix so I asked that mine be removed during the hyst and dr was able to do that too.

I don't blame you for wanting to go back home for surgery. Sounds like a good plan. I hope you don't have too much discomfort while waiting.

Sex After the Hyster

I actually felt much more sexual after I healed. I don't feel any less "womanly" that before.

Sex After the Hyster

I had my complete hysterectomy in Oct of this year. I had many concerns about sex and my feelings with sex after surgery. I can tell you that for us nothing has changed I still feel the same if not better. Hubby says feels the same. Everything works GREAT!!
