Posterior repair stitches pinchy?

***This is to anyone that has had any kind of perineal repair or A&P repair. My question is in regard to the healing of the ~outer~ perineal area.***

I am a little more than 5 weeks out, wow, where does the time go? . My hyst pain/discomfort was gone a long time ago... actually it was far out weighed by the A&P part of my surgery.

One week out of surgery I got an infection in the outer incision, the visible part of the P surgery. Doc squeezed it clean and popped a stitch leaving a liittle hole (sorry if TMI) and it has taken several weeks for THAT to heal.

So now I'm in the home stretch, and I can be out and about, living my life for good long stretches of time (still can't work for another week <sigh>).

The only part of me that is still physically in any discomfort is the posterior repair incision. About 1/2 inch of it is still very firm, not softened up like the rest of it... not infected just very firm. Don't know how else to explain it... and the stitches pinch a little sometimes. There are definitely still stitches there... and they tug or pinch. Like if I started out with 25 stitches they've all healed or dissolved except the middle 5. Like when the seam of your dress pants splits and the stitch on either side of the split takes more stress?

Aww, I'm not explaining it right... but maybe if you've experienced this you'll know what I'm talking about???

How long after your A&P (or any other perineal repair) was it before your entire perineum area was soft and normal again?

Posterior repair stitches pinchy?

Tracey,

My posterior repair incision took forever to heal - I was still very ouchie when I was where you are now, so I think your healing is within normal limits. I had a little infection too... a little area that opened... and suture knot that poked right into that area like a spike. So teeny tiny, but oh so painful. I can't even remember when I started to feel normal - 12, 13 weeks?
Ice packs and getting off my bottom helped, because when I was up & about I'd have an increase in swelling.

I hope you start to notice an improvement soon, dear.
Hang in there.

Gentle s,
Beth
