anyone taking effexor only for menopause symptoms

I saw my DR last Thurs for 6 wk post op. We discussed hotflashes and vag dryness. Also having some crying spells. He did not want to prescribe hormones. I kept one ovary. He suggested that I take the effexor instead of hormones. Has anyone else tried this? What results? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

anyone taking effexor only for menopause symptoms

My Dr prescribed Effexor XR .5mg to help with my hot flashes since HRT is not possible due to BC issues. In fact, he suggested that I take the effexor for about a week before I start taking the Tamoxifen, since hot flashes and nausea are among the side effects of tamoxifen - YAY! Just what I needed - more rolling nausea and hot flashes! Anyway, the effexor has helped with the hot flashes - brought them way down, didn't quite take them away, but they did decrease and made it easier to sleep too.

take care

effexor

Ediedieb,
What time of daydo you take your effexor? I tried AM, but I ended up with nausea all day. I am trying supper time when I have food on my stomach and hoping to get help with insomnia. How long before you could tell a difference with the hotflashes? I have not seen a difference yet. It's only been four days, though. Thanks for responding. It helps to know that someone else is on this med. Some of my nurse friends have questioned it. They had never heard of it being used for menopause. Thanks again.
