How long til surgical meno kicks in?

Hi Ladies

I'm just wondering as i'm having TAH/BSO, how long does it take for menopausal symptoms to start?

Thanks Michelle xx

Michelle, it has been seven weeks since I had TAH and I have only had the same symptoms I was having with peri-menopause. For me that is evening heart palpatations. I do get a little warm at night, but other than that I am fine.
I think it is a very individual thing, my friend had a patch put on her before she even left the hospital. Because I had endometriosis I could not do hormones and fortunately for me, I don't need them.

It is very individual, hormones are fat soluble so one thing is dependent on how heavy you are because if you are thinner you may go symptomatic sooner (not a given but one thing you can see if you research).

I had my surgery on a Monday (I had no menopausal symptoms prior to the surgery). On Saturday I got hit hard headaches, hot flashes and night sweats for 3 days. By the following Monday end of day (1 week post op) those symptoms had abated a bit but depending on what I do (more movement, exercise, what I eat) I can feel more hot flashes (dr says it's estrogen being released from fat). My hot flashes are usually like "simmers" now.

The insomnia (from surgery & menopause) is what really hit me hard. Finally after taking xanax for a week at bedtime things are starting to stabilize on that front.

I started my HRT 2 days after surgery, but I had night sweats about starting at about 4-5 nights after surgery. It took a little while for the patch to level me out.

I had no symptoms before TAH and I'm now 18days postop and still no symptons. Hopefully I won't get any.

I am 44 and have odd hot flush but nothing too bad. I don't fancy taking HRT but have to weigh up options regarding risks and benefits. any advice welcomed.

I am 44 and have had none I did start taking a natural replacement before surgery on Nov. 19, 2008. It seems to be doing all good I have had no hot flashes, crying, mood swings. It is called Estraval from Melaleuca I love all the natural products they have and my doctor approved it months before. <Email address removed for your safety and privacy> Works for me ask your doctor.
