How long til surgical meno kicks in?

I am 31. My doc said you "start" as soon as the surgery is done. I am not on any HRT. My "warm" flashes started at about a week and then my hair started falling out about 3 weeks. Then the headaches started a few weeks ago. But, everything is under control now and even though I have had those issues, I have STILL felt better than I have felt in YEARS!

I started having some "temperature control issues" at 5 weeks, but I was coming down with a cold at about the same time, so I don't know if my symptoms were/are hormonal or viral!

I'm now just past 6 weeks, and I've not felt anything yet, unless surgical menopause makes you sneeze and have a drippy nose.

How long til surgical meno kicks in?

I had a TAH with ovaries removed 4 weeks ago. When I went to surgeon 2 weeks ago, he said if I was going to have menopausal symptoms, I probably would have already started. I am 45 and never had symptoms before surgery.
Now, at 4 weeks, there have been a few times where I feel a little warm, but before I can figure out if something is happening, it is gone. I do not sweat or anything. I have had NO mood swings whatsoever. I feel like my mind is raring to go as soon as body catches up.

I was so sure I would have sweating, mood swings and maybe forgetfulness, but it didn't happen. It is very individual, but most women I know have gotten through it okay.
I do not plan on HRT at this point.

The surgery and recovery was not fun, but I have survived Stage 1A cancer and my doctor assures my I do not need to worry, so a lot to be thankful for. Still worried about sex, but won't know the answer to that for a few weeks! I want to, but will my body want to? Patient husband helps, though.

I had a TAH on Dec 3; although wearing an estrogen patch (it keeps falling off!) I have to say I have not experienced any signs of menopause.

OK, I have had a few headaches, but I don't think that is uncommon and I have always had headaches.

I am not saying that it won't happen...but I sometimes think mind over matter can be of great assistance in this area. If you expect symptoms, I reckon you are most likely to experience them.

I had my first hotflash on the day of surgery. I started HRT that day. I woke up from the surgery a bit weepy, but then a couple of hours later I was roasting and bright red. I am not thin by any stretch of the imagination, but I was having a few hot flashes before surgery. I did have endo and my doctor explained to me that I could still take HRT as long as I took enough progesterone with it. I am doing well now, with only the odd warm flush.

I had my TAH/BSO waaay back on 3/25/08 and frankly have had a model recovery. Started exercising, eating well, lost weight - really no complaints at all!

Until recently. I did have a little bit of insomina starting late summer but not enough to complain about - more about having to get up to go to the bathroom and not falling back soundly asleep. But the past two months this has escalated to the point that I'm starting to suffer. Fell off the exercise wagon (I'm a morning walker) because I cannot drag myself out of bed to do it. Total brain fog. Blurry vision. Fatigued. Starting to have more regular "warm" flashes - nothing sweaty - just a sudden heating up! Not feeling moody - not feeling much of anything.

I haven't been on any hormones and wanted to avoid at all costs because of stroke history in my family, but I'm starting to re-think this. Seeing my regular physician next week to talk about what to do next. Co-worker down the hall said Bio-Identicals are the only way to go! So, good luck - you may have a few months or more where you feel great! I'm counting on mind over menopause to get me through this! I'm too young to feel this old!

Cheers,
Lisa (51 yrs young)
