Had final round of Carbo/Taxol yesterday

Hello Ladies,
I had my 6th and final round of Carbo/Taxol yesterday. My CA 125 had gone down by a few points since my last treatment so I decided to go ahead with it, even though it is not keeping my ascites at bay. I was looking forward to this time, and being done before Christmas, but as the Carbo/Taxol has not worked for me I will be starting a new chemo regime in the new year. My onc has mentioned "Caelyx" which i'd never heard of. Hopefully I can have a few weeks' break first. I am having a CT scan tomorrow as I have been having bowel problems since I was drained 2 weeks ago and am having problems eating. I've had to drink that horrible stuff this morning-not easy when you're feeling sick already! I'm a bit worried about what will show up on the scan, as I haven't had one for quite a while. Thanks as always for listening, lots of love to you all, Rachel x x

I'm thinking of you Rachel. I have had such relief since my drain, I had hoped the same for you. I have not heard of your new possible drug either, so don't know anything about it. Please keep us posted. My first Christmas after carbo/taxil was a horrible one for me as well, as I had also had to deal with a recurrence and a drug not being effective. My prayers are with you.

Thank you Faith, it's nice to hear from you. I'm glad your draining has given you so much relief. My ascites has started to build again already. I think Caelyx might be the same as Doxil. The best of luck with your Avastin and hope you have a lovely Christmas love Rachel x

Hi Rachel - so sorry to hear that the carbo/taxol is not working for you. I too am currently dealing with a recurrence and getting the same chemo. They will do a CT scan after the third treatment (which is early Jan) to see if it is working. If not, then it will most likely be hospitalization and ifosfimide for me.

I do hope that they give you a bit a a break so you can enjoy the holidays. Also hope that the Caelyx will do the trick for you. There are so many different drugs out there now it is almost certain that there will be something that will knock out those nasty little C cells.

You poor thing! Having to drink that contrast stuff when you already don't feel well is no fun. The facility I go to calls it a "smoothie." Uh-huh.

At any rate, I hope the CT was uneventful and your results turn out likewise. As the other sisters have said, try to enjoy the holidays and corral your energy to hit it hard in the new year.

Rachel,

I am sorry the carbo/taxol didn't do the trick.

Caelyx is the same as Doxil, or doxirubin, here in the states.

I found an article about a trial in 2001 that says,

"POINTE-CLAIRE, QC -- January 30, 2001 --
......A pivotal, randomized, Phase III, multi-centre comparative clinical trial was conducted in the U.S., Europe and Canada ..... Caelyx . Caelyx demonstrated survival, toxicity and quality of life benefits for patients with advanced ovarian carcinoma who failed first-line treatment with combination platinum/paclitaxel...."

SOOO.....it sounds like a good option for you! This one will kick all those cancer cells to the curb for good!

Enjoy the break between treatments, and have a great holiday. Do let us know how the CT scan results turn out.

Will be keeping you in thought and
