When are you supposed to return to work?

I work part-time (2 5-hour days) in a home office. I went back 2 1/2 weeks after the surgery. But, my days really only lasted about 2 hours and I was quite tired. Today, just before my 6 week mark, is the first time I'm "dressing up" for work.

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

I am on my 6th week and not feeling ready to return to work. I saw the doctor today and then called after my appointment for a note to be out of work for another 2 weeks which would be 8 weeks. I too am concerned about sitting at a desk for long periods of time. I am having pain and soreness an inch or two to below my belly button. Could it be a hernia? I don't necessarily see anything "popping out" but the doctor said that spot is where they pulled the muscles apart and it could be really bruised still. Just doesn't feel right to me - a divet of sorts. She said to let her know if it doesn't get better. I didn't ask her if it could be a hernia. I didn't want to insult her.

Feeling guilty about not going back to work at 6 weeks so hoping to hear from others that needed more time.

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

I 6 weeks post op... and really feeling almost 100% normal. The first 3 weeks were rough... week 4 much better and last week (5 weeks) I seemed to really turn a corner. I know I am still healing - and HAVE to be careful, which is hard, because I feel really good for the most part!

I do still have issues with my bowels.. seeing another doctor to have colonoscopy. I do have a tight pulling feel right above my belly button, and my tummy does still swell in the evening and is still slightly tender if I cough or sneeze.

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

I am 2 weeks post op (tvto & posterior repair) this surgery far more painful than my hysterectomy(11 years ago), the discomfort is awful, i spend my days flat on my back watching tv/internet if i stand for longer than 5 mins i bleed! - should this still be happening? dr has signed me off initially for 8 weeks but I know I have to go back at the end of this sick note for another 1 for a further 4 weeks. I find it sooo hard not doing anything, bm's are a constant challenge, I am going to start looking like a grapefruit soon as iam consuming so many of them!!! It's good to know that I am not the only 1 going thru this.

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

@Piper I would ask my doc about the hernia issue.
She needs to know if you are having problems.
Best wishes to you

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

I'm having a hard time handling getting back into the work thing. It's so stressful- my job that is. I have been looking for another while on leave. Stress seems to make it all worse - my pain, the fatigue etc. It's amazing how stress effects us physically.

Re: When are you supposed to return to work?

My mom can come down for a week, then my husband will be around some evenings when our boys aren't playing baseball (4 games/week thru June, plus gymnastics for daughter). We're somewhat separated now, so there's more stress, too...
