I have noticed a few little blisters and one big blister under the steri-strips. They are at the top of the steri strip not anywhere near the incision. I am one week post-op from abdominal surgery. I removed the steri-srtips, not sure if I was supposed to. The incision itself looks o.k. Has anyone every experienced this? I have a call into the DR.'s office but they won't be open till Monday.
Can you ring the hospital where you had the surgery for advice? The steri strips are in place of stitches so without them you may be more at risk of the incision re-opening. However, I think if I was developing blisters I would have done the same thing as sounds like you might be allergic to the adhesive on them. I would suggest you take it very very easy especially if you have nothing in place of the steri strips as it is still very early in your healing. Hope it sorts out for you quickly. Happy healing and dont forget to
Oh goodness yes! I remember that all to well. I hadn't ever been allergic to any tapes or anything else but once those steri-strips were in place they formed redness and blisters underneath, itched like crazy, so I too removed mine. I had staples though, so they weren't even applied until they removed every other staple after 10 days or so. My doctor said it was good that I had because skin breakdown can cause a much worse and added problem!! Just be very careful not to do ANYTHING that is going to put strain on your incision there. Always make sure you're checking with them about things like this, as you probably already know to do anyway!
I have a post about this on here because I AM allergic to surgical tape and they used the steri-strips on me and I had a HORRIBLE reaction to the tape. I had blisters from hip to hip and on my legs. I am finally healing after a trip to the ER an IV antibiotic drip, strong antibiotics 2 x a day and a steriod pack for 6 days. I would put neosporin on 2 big pads and put them under my tummy to help with the burning from the blisters and to soak up what was leaking from them. CALL YOUR DOCTOR ASAP!! I hope you don't go through what I had to. If it is bad go to the ER, you don't want the infections getting into your blood stream.
