I am 3 weeks post op from a Sacral colpopexy repair. The vaginal pain and pressure and pain where the super pubic catheter was are getting better and I don't really need any meds for pain control for those. However, I am having increased low back pain. I am trying to figure out if it is from the surgery or just because I haven't been to the chiropractor in a while (which I'm guessing that after this surgery is out of the question now). I am in more pain at night, when I lay down I just can't get comfortable and the longer I lay the more intense the pain is. So, I'm still using narcotics just so the pain goes away and I can sleep.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if this is a life-long problem after this type of surgery. The repair was pretty intense, but again, the pain that was most intense after surgery is getting better but now the back is starting to hurt.
If you anyone can help me out with this, I would be so happy.
I am so sorry you have still having any kind of pain 3 weeks later. Of course no one can diagnose you except your own doctors. However, we may have a little bit of experience to share. Sometimes, it is just that one is so early on in recovery that you just need a bit more time--sometimes a couple more weeks or so--to heal better before you feel better. Then, sometimes women can have post-surgical pain from the positioning they are placed in during surgery. This can actually last a fairly long time. I was surprised that I had back pain for what seemed like forever (think it was at least 6 weeks or so) after one of my surgeries just from that lithotomy surgical position.
Also, I've read on pubmed.gov that some of the side effects/ complications of a sacral colpopexy can be--NOT always are of course--such things as neuralgia and nerve entrapment, dyspareunia, and other painful things. So yes, they are not common but when the things happens to you, that's not the all-important question, is it?
You can do a search here on Hyster Sisters using the Google Search at the top right of most pages. Type in 'colpopexy' and see what posts come up.
I hope you find relief for your pain. Sending many +++ thoughts and extra good vibes.......
