POST-OP bowel problems!!

Ok here goes..my lavh was dec 19th. Kept right ovary. All seemed to go well but as time is passing my bowels are not!
I had an enema assisted movement on the 24th, the 27th if I wasn't on the tiolet..too bad and now assissisted on Jan 4th. That is it!! My tummy gets bloated and I am very uncomfitable I have to take milk of magnesia every day and still am not able to produce a good movement. I have no control. The muscles just don't seem to work. I am even having trouble passing gas. My dr has been on vacation and tomorrow morning I will be on the phone to him. But I was wondering if I am the only one that this has happened to, or do I have reson to be concerned? Oh by the way I was getting up 3 or 4 times to pee but now I can go all night without waking to pee! Ya..at least some good news..right?? Oh and one more thing... I have LOST 16lbs!!
Yes you read right 16lbs!!! I am not sure if this is a good thing but I am hoping it is....

post-op bowel problems!!

Hi~
I found some info for you from a website called Peaceful Mind:
Tips for Good Colon Health
1. Peristalsis and Hydration: Peristalsis is the natural waves of contractions produced by the digestive tract in order to move food through the colon. There are many ways to stimulate peristalsis, but the most important way is through hydration. Constipation is often caused by dehydration. Hydration of the colon is key to making peristalsis happen naturally. (see Traditional Chinese Medicine)

2. Bulk: The colon requires bulk for it to achieve healthy movement. Optimal intake of fiber is about 25-30 grams per day. The ideal combination of soluble fiber (psyllium husk) and insoluble fiber (flax oil, fiber) helps to absorb water and toxins and adds roughage to bulk up stool and sweep away built up debris in the intestinal tract.

3. Lubrication: is essential for the smooth flow of stool out of the intestines. Essential oils such as flaxseed oil, borage oil and fish oil are ideal.

Hope that gives you more ideas than what you may have already heard or tried.

post-op bowel problems!!

Sorry you are having this added complication :-(

I am not surprised you are uncomfortable and I would be on the phone as soon as they open tomorrow. This just doesn't sound right to me at all.

Let us know how you get on.

Hugs

Painful Poo

Like you, I'm amazed at the difference in my bladder performance.

I'm fortunate that I'm not having any issues with regularity. My problem is that as I feel the impending 'urge to poo', the abdominal pain gets really bad. REALLY bad. Not to hijack your posting, wondering how long this will last.

post-op bowel problems!!

I am feeling your pain! Not quite as much tho. Just had my TAH on Dec 30 and passed a small package (mostly liquid) on Sat Jan 3 with help of m.o.m...... I'm eating prunes and drinking apple juice and walking but I haven't been able to go for over 40 hours. I've been eating solid food for 4 days. Is this normal? I get the urge to go but by the time I sit, nothing happens. Plus I am also losing weight cause I don't eat that much. Don't feel like eating more than a half cup of food per meal! You should def call your doctor tho.... You had ur surgery way before me. Does anyone have suggestions for me too? Or am I expecting too much too soon?

Actually, I had mine 3 days before you. Triscuits always work for me. But I've never been someone particularly challenged in the constipically-challenged department.

I think I just made up a new word. In your honor.
