bitter about attitude

I had a viginal hyst less than 4 weeks ago, I had major pain for about 21 days. Pain levels between 7-9.
When I tell people this they say .........."But didn't you have the viginal hyst? "
Like this is supposed to be pain-free.
WHERE are they getting this from? I think they expected me to be back to work at 2 weeks!!!

People can be so dumb. Makes you just want to *punch* them.

Just because you do not have a great big outside scar they think it is all painless.

My opinion: Ignore them.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry people can be so irritating! I had a TAH/LSO and that doesn't matter to some of my friends, they think I should be back at church and doing the things I used to when I was 2 wks post op. There's just no figuring people out. No matter which way any of us has had surgery w/ lots of stitches and bruising of organs, gee whiz people wake up! Take care and get plenty of rest. I just woke up from an hour nap- I have only been up 3 hours before that, so I'm trying to take it slow!

I agree with Patty - Ignore them.

But if you haven't already, please check in with your doctor. Pain levels of 7-9 shouldn't happen much even the first day of so. Having major pain for 21 days should be a big red flag.

I hope it's nothing important. I had a nerve caught in a stitch - it hurt, but wasn't dangerous. But do check - that kind of pain (no matter what kind of hyst) shouldn't be happening.

Best of luck!

Oddiefish, I agree with everyone else. I had a lavh June 11, and everyone thought I should be jumping up and down. My doctor even talked with the nurses because they were humiliating me about having to have a morphine pump. One nurse even ask me when they were going to bring my baby in the room. Everyone would say you just had a vaginal hyst. I finally ignored them. My doctor wasn't concerned about my severe ongoing pain until week four. Of course he had to ask if I wasn't in pain, but just addicted to pain medication. I cried the whole visit explaining that this was pain that I thought should be over by 4 weeks. Thankfully he believed me and sent me to another doctor. It turned out that I had acid reflux, esophagal erosion, hiated hernia, and barretts syndrome.

You still need to take it easy. It take 6-12 months for your body to heal. I can't really tell you how much pain is normal to be having after a hyst. But at week five, after medication to help with my reflux and hernia I was almost pain free. I really think if I was taking that medication after my surgery I would have had minimal pain after my hyst. I would call my doctor and explain the pain.
