small red, itchy rash at incision...help!

Hi ladies. I've developed a small rash in/around my belly button (I had lap surgery). It's little, itchy, red bumps. At first I was thinking it was because I used Neosporin on the incision...but now I am wondering. Has this happened to anyone? Should I call the doctor?

Yes, this happened to me. It was an irritation caused by the adhesive tape they used, and I basically had a huge square over my abdomen, where they had taped a cloth or something down. Hydro cortisone can help clear up itchy, red, dry rashes. But, I'd call the doctor to make sure it's not something else.

Good luck!

I had the same thing right after my surgery (Dec 15th). I too seem to have an allergic reaction to the adhesive tape. It itched like crazy, so I ended up taking the bandaid off in the first 48 hours after surgery. When I went back to the dr. for my 1 week follow up appt., she said it wasn't serious and it would go away. It lasted about 1.5 to 2 wks. No sign of it now. Of course, I wonder why I had just a reaction to that bandaid when I didn't have one to the other three that I got that day... I never did find an answer to that question. Yours should start improving soon, but if it doesn't please check with your doctor. Best of luck to you in your recovery.
