Instant Menopause?
I'm sure one of you great ladies out there can answer what seems to be a silly question. My decision along with my doctor is to remove the uterus and keep the cervix and ovaries. Someone told me today that they knew someone (you know how that goes!) who immediately had to begin HRT even though her ovaries were not removed. I have asked around and others who have had similar surgery have not had to start HRT. Could be this particular person's timing for menopause? Anyway, would appreciate any input you all may have.
Thanks and keep the good info. coming. This site is such a source of support and comfort!
Betty

Instant Menopause?
It is possible for ovaries to go into a bit of a shutdown, as Sheri said. There may also have been other factors for this woman of which your friend was unaware. (wanna bet on it? )
Each of us is different and we all respond differently. Talk things over with your doctor, and try not to worry too much. For some reason, some people seem to delight in passing on "information" and horror stories to people waiting for surgery. It's usually wrong, and usually has nothing to do with your particular medical situation.
Try to hang in there, keep readng and posting here, and ask your doctor any specific questions about YOUR condition. (and don't listen to those stories!!!)
 s to you!

I kept cervix and ovaries too. Don't worry too much about instant menopause, many times the ovaries shut down temporarily but they should return to active duty within a few weeks after the surgery. If after that time you still have the night sweats and hot flashes, you can see the doctor, but it's pretty rare for a woman with healthy ovaries for them to fail completely. You should be fine.
