Anyone trying to quit smoking?
Hi Morgan,
You are not on your own. I just discovered your post today, how's it going?
I've tried on a couple of occasions before to no avail. The longest I lasted was 3mth but even then I cheated when I was out socializing. Anywho... I'm going for it again. I've given myself monday as my quit date. I have about 6 weeks until my op but I don't have a definite date yet. So in order to be in my best health for recovery I have to stop.
If at first you don't suceed try n try agian. So here goes

Anyone trying to quit smoking?
I am also trying to quit. I actually had quit on Jan 4 when I was admitted to the hospital for blood clots in both lungs. I couldn't smoke "of course" while there but coming home was so hard for me. I did very well. But I have slipped up and smoked one here and there. I am determined to quit. I need to for my health and I am just sick of it. But O my gosh it is SOOO hard. Just hang in there. We can all be each others support system!

Re: Anyone trying to quit smoking?
I'm still trying to quit before my surgery date of May 20.... I've cut down by 2/3... only smoking 4 -5 smokes/day.... I'm broke right now... so I'm chewing on Nicorette gum... it's actually working better than the patches for me... but I'm I'm here for moral support for anyone who needs it....

Re: Anyone trying to quit smoking?
I feel for you all. I am 4 weeks post op and still smoking. I really want to quit and have for a long time, it is just so hard when my husband comes in the house smelling like a cigarette. I am going to set a quit date soon, any advice would be great.

Re: Anyone trying to quit smoking?
yes, my last cigarette was the morning of my surgery (complete hysterectomy). Had an extreme melt down the 2nd day of my hospital stay b/c i the withdrawal but the funny thing was, i didn't want a cigarette, I wanted to not feel pain and wanted to sleep (as i hadn't slept the nite before, day of surgery). My doctor told me my recovery would be better if i quit smoking. Tomorrow is 7 days and i'm doing ok as a non-smoker, not as hard as i thought it would be and i loved smoking cigarettes! part of my identity and all that. I and up 6 lbs. after my surgery last tuesday which i really don't understand b/c i really didn't eat too much whilte at the hospital, nothing the day of surgery and post op, a little soup on day 2 and the morning of day 3 a few bites of an omlete and weighed myself when i got home and was up 6 lbs! still am. swollen belly and all that. am a little active, walking around the house and watering plants ut i'm more than a little concerned about weight gain b/c i have a surpressed tyroid, have a very swollen belly, and now, not smoking cigarettes - concerned about how all of this is going to effect my metabolism! I forsure do not want to gain anymore weight than i was prior to going in for surgery. has anyone been through this sort of process? if so, i would very much appreciate any and all input. Thank you.

Re: Anyone trying to quit smoking?
I have been desperately trying to quit on and off for the last three weeks since my endometrial cancer diagnosis. I've gone cold turkey three times, and only lasted two days each time. I have quit before for 4 months and it felt great (and so easy) - the one cigarette slip up got me. Now I feel so much pressure to quit that I want cigarettes even more. I'm two weeks away from surgery, and I want so badly to be smoke free and done with the most intense part of withdrawal before surgery (and withdrawal isn't even that hard if I maintain my blood sugar levels which go WILD on days two and three for me). In any event, I believe firmly that cold turkey, no nicotine replacement is best because you just get the addiction out of the way and the nicotine out of the system. You feel so much better and don't want cigarettes so much faster. But then I get to feeling so sorry for myself that somehow the dirty cigarette seems like a 'nice' thing to do for myself. Even as I write this it seems totally absurd. Cigarettes will only keep me sick and create infection issues. I could use some encouraging words, I guess.
Lots of support out to you fellow smokers. I'll be thinking of you all when I quit tonight (I consider the moment after my last cig the moment I become a non-smoker - because it is!)
Have a great week,
iam37 (Ingrid)

Re: Anyone trying to quit smoking?
I haven't smoked since July 23rd....When I am outside or mad sometimes I think about it, but usually the thought goes away within a couple of minutes. My husband luckily quit smoking at the same time so that makes it easier. BUT...I have to return to work tomorrow and the girls there....do smoke..so that makes it hard! Don't know how this is doing to go...we will see!!
