Estrogen or hypothyroid symptoms?
I have been on .150 Synthroid for over 15 years lavh-bso done Oct 07 premarin for 5 months then v- dot currently on .1, tsh was really low in Oct <.001 and drs have lowered my synthroid dose 2 x since I am now at .100mcgs and am feeling worse by the day. I can't tell whether I am having estrogen or hypothyroid symptoms . I just know I feel HORRIBLE.

Estrogen or hypothyroid symptoms?
Jujuhe,
Did the dr also test T4 and T3 in addition to the TSH? If you only test TSH, you don't get an idea of how much free thyroxine is available to the body. The TSH can test normal and yet you can still have hypothyroid symptoms as you really need to check T4 and T3 levels to get an accurate picture of your thyroid function.
In general if the TSH is low, they do lower your thyroid meds, but without the other 2 levels checked, it's hard to tell what your body is doing.
What are your symptoms?

Estrogen or hypothyroid symptoms?
Calypso. My t4 was 12.7 a little too high for a doctor that looks at the "numbers". I am exhausted, cold, depressed, gained 5 lbs since Oct puffy face and hands and I could sleep for a month. I have never had one hyper symptom I have been feeling worse since they lowered the dose of synthroid. My regular family doc sent me back to the endo doc and he lowered dose even more. Supposed to go back on 2/3 for another blood test. Endo wasn't interested in checking estrogen and said women didn't need testosterone.

Estrogen or hypothyroid symptoms?
If you're on estrogen, your thyroid med needs increase generally. The estrogen and thyroxine compete for binding sites. Are you using progesterone? I was told by my dr that adding natural progesterone will help the estrogen and thyroxine work better, without the competing for sites. Without the progesterone, you will end up needing more thyroid meds. Your TSH may test normal in fact when you are low in thyroxine. The bloodwork usually only tests the amount of thyroxine in the blood, not necessarily what is available to you (or unbound) unless they're testing the FREE levels. It's all very complicated how they all interact.
Exhausted, cold, depressed and gaining weight could also be signs of estrogen imbalance. Or adrenal stress. I am surprised the endo doc doesn't want to test all at the same time.
I am on 200mcg Synthroid (for a few years) and have similar symptoms right now. My bloodwork shows TSH a bit higher than dr likes, T4 low normal, T3 low normal. I am considering asking to go back on Armour Thyroid as I think I felt better with it overall.
I also plan to add testosterone when the dr says it's okay. And I would definitely look into adding the natural progesterone if you're not already using it.
Was this T4 of 12.7 a free T4 level? My bloodwork lab test has a normal range of 0.4-4.5. Weird that your T4 would be so high. Have you had thyroid antibodies tested? Or pituitary function? Or adrenal function? I think I'd request a full hormone workup at the same time so they can get the big picture... sounds like something's not right.
