Scheduled hyst. Jan 22 - No clue.

I am scheduled for my hyst . Jan. 22. We cannot figure out if it will be a total or partial until he "gets inside" at this point it should be DaVinci assisted but again we cant guarantee that either. Ive left it to the good dr. to decide what is going or staying. Since I was 21 Ive had 2 csections 3 D&C's, 1 lap for endo, 1 for tubal, 1 for a blocked tube, an appendectomy, and an endo ablation. (I should have zippers by now) Im 40 yrs old. The ablation has resulted in water and cysts in uterus and he believes its the endo causing the severe pain, cramping and contractions. So whats left but a hyst. and if its endo it will be a total. He also said based on scar tissue.. we might end up with an abdominal hyst. Im just curious if anyone has gone in thinking they are having one thing done just to wake up and find out it was far worse / better ?? than planned.

I have my BF flying in the night of surgery thinking im going home 24hrs later and he can only stay thru Sunday is that even helpful?

Thanks and WOW am i impressed with this site, its answered almost all my questions .. and then some.

Thanks Ladies,

Tina

Hello, My plan of action is this, I am having my surgery the same as you, Like your self, my doctor says he will know when he gets inside, But as it stands I will have a partial abdominal hysterectomy. I do plan to be in the hosp. at least 3 days. and my mom there to help for the next 3 weeks. Like yourself I have also had a c-section.

I do not know when your pre-op is, But If I were you I would make a list of things to ask your doctor, and his nurses. Then when you go to the hosp. ask questions.
Lot's of luck to you.

Hi Tina!

I went into surgery with the same thing. He was going to try to do a LAVH but I might have ended up with an TAH. Of course he couldnt promise anything until he got in there to see what he was dealing with.

Well, when he got in, I guess he was confident enough in doing the lavh/bso.

My mom came in for a few days and then left. My husband also went back to work the day she left. I was okay by myself. I spent alot of time on the couch since it was easier for me to get up by myself.

I think it would be helpful to have your BF there. It sure is nice to wake up and have an advocate there in the hospital with you Even if it is only for a few days, I think it would be good for you to have him there.

See you on the post op board!

Thanks for responding. Ive been going back and forth with whether or not I even wanted him here if he was going to be stuck at a hospital.. but yes it would be nice to see him regardless. I had thoughts that I would end up with a hyst. over the last year. I had no clue how many types and how many things could effect how and what care you got. This has been a great learning experience. Thank you both again for your time!! see ya on the flip side.

I am also scheduled for the 22nd. He is hoping and thinks he will be able to do an LAVH, but my uterus is sort of on the cusp size-wise, so I could end up with a TAH.

I've have four surgeries before (one when I was very young, three as an adult), but they were all minor surgeries (two foot, two hernia)...I'm trying to prep myself for the reality of recovery but it's hard since I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to wake up with.

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone...and we are even scheduled for the same day! I'm 40 years old as well.
