memory loss 10 months post-op

My ovaries and uterus were removed 10 months ago. I was on estrodial for 6 months post-op, when I decided to wean myself off since I had been symptom -free since my surgery. I was off estrodial for 2 months and the hot flashes, insomnia and memory disturbances became so progressively pronounced that I couldn't function well anymore. I went back on 1mg estrodial (same as post-op dose) daily (back on it for 2 months now) and the hot flashes and insomnia improved but did not disappear. The memory loss and inability to focus seem, maybe, a little worse. Will my mind ever go back to it's "normal", pre-op state?

memory loss 10 months post-op

Hi!

I went through a period of memory problems. Finding the right word in a sentence, completing a sentence, following through on simple tasks, etc. were all problem areas for me. I did get back to my normal pre-op self which was due in part to fully recovering from surgery and also to finding hormone balance.

If you continue to have problems, don't hesitate to let your doctor know. It may be necessary to adjust your hormone therapy to help you feel your best.

Hang in there and let us know how you're doing, okay?

Menopause affects our brain function, you are right. Particularly surgical menopause. We require oestrogen for our brain function. I have issues still, but I also try really hard to help my brain, with good nutrition, plus consciously paying attention, keeping a calendar or diary, going a bit slower, doing one thing at a time instead of 20. Brain connections are reduced by 25% directly after surgical menopause, which is why oestrogen replacement is so important straight away, even if only short term. 25%, not 2%, 25%...
