Possible ovary shutdown after hysterectomy?
I am about 2 months post-op a LAVH secondary to endometrial cancer and was able to keep my ovaries. Recently I have heard of women whose ovaries shut down after their hysterectomy's. I have not heard of this before and am wondering how common this is. I have been feeling emotional lately and am having a difficult time returning to my "normal life". I'm starting to wonder if this could be my problem. Anybody have any insight or personal experiences they could share?

Possible ovary shutdown after hysterectomy?
I kept both of my ovaries & they did shut down after my surgery. I got the hot flashes, night sweats, crazy dream etc. In week 4 they must have figured it out cuz it all went back to normal. 2 months seems like you should have gotten strait by now. Maybe call the doctor & ask if they think you need to be seen? If not hang in there a little longer. Our bodies were traumatized & it could just be taking a while to get back to normal. Best wishes.

Possible ovary shutdown after hysterectomy?
I asked my doctor if this was a possibility before I got my LSH, and she said... it's possible, but highly unlikely and even then it wouldn't be permanent. So ask your gyn, and hopefully they will wake up soon!

Possible ovary shutdown after hysterectomy?
I have read in different articles that it does and can happen fairly frequently. From my readings it sounds like they are learning that the uterus and ovaries communicate with each other and when the uterus is no longer there the ovaries can athrophy. I agree that it is good to call your Dr. and talk about it, and give it some time. It might just be a matter of adjustment for you.

Thank you
Thank you for all who have replied thus far. I was just reading online that a progesterone cream could be beneficial. Anyone else heard of this? I will clear things with my oncologist first before I treat myself. I just want to know all my options. At 31 y/o I have a little while to go before natural menopause and would like to interact with my family like a 31 y/o would who has hormones.
I am not having night sweats or hot flashes. My symptoms are more irritability and feeling like I can not handle the load I am used to handeling. Maybe this is normal after the trauma my body has been through, not to mention the emotional roller coaster of being diagnosed with cancer and then, thanks be to God, being healed.
I want so desperately for my life to resume back to what it was, I'm just struggling a little or a lot I guess. Are these emotions normal or indicative of loss of hormones?
