kept ovaries - will hormones help?
I had a vaginal hysterectomy/rectocele repair Nov. 2008 & kept ovaries. Before surgury I feel tired, don't do anything, anxiety, lost face fullness, dry eyes etc. and it is not better since surgery.
Could this be perimenopause?
My doctor tested estrogen 514, and FSH was 7.1. My thyroid was ok. He didn't test progesterone or testosterone. Gynocologist says only take estrogen, my doctor will give me hormones if I want them but am not sure if it will help symptoms and what to try. My mom had ovarian cancer. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hormones help hot flashes, vaginal dryness ( vaginal estrogen). I have never found it to help with dry eyes though. Eye lubricants help with this, like Refresh.

Can't speak for others, but my eyes dried out quickly at menopause, and estrogen replacement fixed them back to normal. I'm 58 now and almost never have to use eye drops.

I am confused.... It will be 4 weeks for me tomorrow. My Dr said I should not be having hot flashes and if I am it is just a residual effect of the Lurpon Depot. I had a PVH so my cervix and ovaries are intact. I thought I was losing my mind because they are intense... my back even starts to sweat and I am usually always cold!
So, can you get hot flashes with still having your ovaries or not?

Yeah, you can get hot flashes if you kept your ovaries. Removal of the uterus causes some hormone changes. Also, the ovaries may be in shock or compromised by change in blood supply or something. The situation may be temporary, and the ovaries will kick back in. If they don't get back to normal during the next couple of months, then you'll have to consider they may not.

2 yrs since my PVH Kept ovaries
Hi, I have a question? I'm not sure if this is due to my hysterectomy or just moody. I had my PVH back in 2007. My uterus and cervix were removed. I kept both my ovaries. I am not on any type of hormone replacement. I know I have times when I feel very down. It comes and goes. I do take Effexor XR once daily for panic disorder. I've had that for years. Anyways, I am starting to think since lately I can cry at a drop of a hat and I'm not particularly depressed about anything that maybe my hormones could be out of wack. Can you have problems with hormones even keeping your ovaries? What can you do about this? I know my thyroid was checked recently and it is fine. Should I have my hormones checked and if so what tests are recommended? Oh I didn't mention that I am now 39 yrs old.
Other than being moody some the only things I can think of that is a little different since having my PVH is that sex isn't as good as it was and it is harder to have a orgasm.
I would really love any information you gals can give me.
Thanks,
Tammy

Hi Tammy,
I'm sorry you are going thru this. Sounds like you need your hormones levels checked, esp. estradiol (E2) I was crying everyday intil I got on the transdermal patch and supplement also with estrogel, estriol (OTC), and natural progesterone (bought over the internet, and vagifem. You may find your estradiol to be low. Call ur Dr. and ask him or her to check you. Ask for a trial of hormones to see if they help. Let me know. By the way, I still have my ovaries. Mine quit working after about 2 yrs after the hyst. I think it was because of severed blood supply to uterus is why they failed.
