Got My Pathology Report & My Surgery Report

Well I went to the hospital and got my pathology report and my surgical report. I found that I had fibroids. Now my question is why didn't my previous doctor know this...

They were telling me that I had endometriosis.

Anyone with Fibroids? What are they?

Uterine fibroids are usually benign muscle masses that can grow anywhere in your uterus and cause excess bleeding and pain during your period. Some cause no symptoms at all unless they become large enough to press on other organs. I think statistics say something like 60% of pre-menopausal women have them. They can be "seed" size all the way up to a melon. Be advised this is all off the top of my head from having fibroids removed 9 yrs ago.

We have a lot of information on fibroids in our Resource Database you should find helpful: Fibroid Resources.

Sometimes ultrasounds and other tests don't show everything and surgeons are surprised during surgery! Make a list of all of your questions and concerns so you can discuss them all at your next doctor's appointment.

I hope your recovery is going well! Take care and remember !

I had fibroids for several years and didn't have problems of excessive bleeding, but mine were inside the muscle wall of my uterus. They can be like mine, or inside the uterine lining of the uterine cavity or on the outside of the uterus or you can have all of them. Yours might have been small. Just know they're very common.

My fibroids were first found on an internal exam and were then tracked via ultrasound.
