Lupron + headaches - is it the same post hyst?

I am on my second month of Lupron and I am getting awful headaches every day (near migraine level) and my doctor has adjusted my estrogen a bit hoping that will help. It's only been a day since he upped the levels, but I'm not feeling any better. I want to hide in bed all day and can't because I have little ones to take care of.

Are these headaches caused by the Lupron or lack of hormones? Will I feel this way after my hyst? We were going to take both ovaries based on my Endo, but now he's thinking we might leave one (if it's clear of endo) and that way I won't have this trouble... I'm worried about endo coming back and I'm worried because I also suffer from PMDD which is totally gone with the Lupron.

Ugh. Any help?

Lupron + headaches - is it the same post hyst?

I've had migraines most of my life (since teenage), menstrual related and just plain out of the blue ones. The lupron didn't seem to increase my frequency and didn't help it either. I felt worse taking the lupron injections for four months. The plus side was that it ceased bleeding and made my insides shrink to make surgery easier.
I've been told most of my life too, that the migraines may cease once I go through menopause. That was one of my BIG hopes. For the first few weeks post op, migraines came on strong again. You can imagine my disappointment but I also know that I hadn't given my body long enough time to adjust. I am still not trying any HRT. This past couple of weeks, I haven't had a severe migraine at all. I am praying it's the beginning of a new life with less headaches. Time will only tell.
So, I guess I'm not much help - just offering sympathy.
Take good care & hoping your feeling a little better today!

Lupron + headaches - is it the same post hyst?

Hi Kathy
I'm so sorry you are suffering. The beginning of my second month on lupron I got a horrid headache that lasted days and days. When I finally called the doctor about it he wanted me to use add-back therapy, but before I got a chance to start it the headache finally eased off.

With lupron, our hormone levels spike before they drop off, so I'm told it's the drastic shift that likely caused the headache. I always got a migraine with my period too, (also a hormone shift), but this whopper was much worse. Maybe because it just lasted so long. It didn't stop like a regular headache, but rather tapered off slowly over the week. (It was years ago and I still remember it well because it was Christmas)

Shortly after that... my hot flashes started, so I knew the lupron had indeed kicked in ~~~and~~~ my pain improved and no PMS. Lupron wasn't easy, but it was better than the horrible bleeding, pain and PMS too.

Post hyst/bso my headaches are much better. I am fortunate to be well balanced with my HRT, but the price has been hefty, as I continue to have stage IV endo from what couldn't be removed from my colon.

I hope you start to feel better soon!

Beth
