Question: Does progesterone Cream causes cancer?

Does progesterone cream cause cancer? At least that's what the label on my progesterone cream says and I'm confused more than ever. I started using about 2 months ago and now I read some small print on my 2nd jar of Natural Woman's Progesterone Cream, "Warning: this product contains progesterone, a chemical know to the state of California to cause cancer. Consult with your physician before taking this product." What does this mean? Did California conduct some kind of study that resulted in these findings? Does anyone know how true this is, i.e., causes cancer? I'm a little hesitant about using it now. Please help, thanks.

Question: Does progesterone Cream causes cancer?

No it doesn't -cause- cancer. Otherwise we'd all have it since our progesterone levels rose every month when we had ovaries, and especially when we were pregnant. There are cancers with progesterone receptors, just like there are those wirth estrogen receptors, but neither is caused by the hormone, it just helps them grow faster.

Here's the part of the California law which led to that label. In order to
NOT be labeled as cancer causing “a person exposed to the chemical at the ‘no significant risk level’ for 70 years would not have more than a ‘one in 100,000’ chance of developing cancer as a result of that exposure.” So, if there would be more than one excess case of cancer out of 100,000 people over a period of 70 years because of exposure to that amount of whatever, you have to put that label on it. Even cars and computer cables have to have that label in CA for several reasons. Do you think they can give you cancer? (Maybe they can, but only in CA!) I always wondered when they would try to put a label on the sun. They are actually trying to get it on potato chips and fries.

Just another case of misused statistics masked as science. Sorry if this seems like ranting, but this kind of thing really bugs me.

Question: Does progesterone Cream causes cancer?

Sciencegeek, you're really good! Thanks for the facts and I kinda thought of that myself but just wanted to make sure. Its like the warnings they include on all drugs (whether OTC or prescribed), just cause it can happen 1 out of how ever many it needs to be stated on the label. I also figured since I'm not from California, it shouldn't affect me joke!). Thanks again.
