My Urethra Hurts - UTI?

No, it turns out that I thought I had a chronic condition... called interstitial cystitis... or UTI, but I kept testing Negative..

but one night I was laying in bed and it felt like a spasm in my urethra.. I was also peeing out black specks that turned out to be blood.......

I looked up urethra spasm and it is a condition that does exist....andn ENablex is the preferred treatment...

I hadn't described my pain as a spasm... to my urologist... but when I told her that she put me that day on enablex...

with in three hours I was feeling better after the first pill...I had been suffering that pain for over 3 months..and I am already on pain meds... no help there..

Not for everyone, and I am not a doc, But just an experience that might help someone who is seeing a doc.

My Urethra Hurts - UTI?

Ann,

That's interesting. My sister-in-law has been suffering for the past 9 months with a condition that they can't seem to pinpoint. After endless UTI tests, her urologist came to the conclusion that her urethra is retracted and told her she was born this way....which totally doesn't make sense since this has only bothered her for the past 9 months. Anyway, she's been to this urologist and has had her urethra stretched and scoped (OUCH) because he thinks that is the problem. She has not signs of a UTI but on a couple different occasions he said while scoping her that her bladder looked inflamed. She mentioned the interstitial cystitis to him and he said "no, that wouldn't be it"...without even testing her for it. I don't think he's qualified to do the testing...that's what I think, so he keeps doing these endless 'stretching of the urethra' exercised to her. She finally got an appointment with a highly recommended urologist, but her appointment isn't until the end of March. After reading your story, I think she may suffer from what you suffer from. What kind of symptoms did you have leading up to this point? Urgency to urinate? A lot of pelvic pressure? Please fill me in as much as you can so that I can pass it on.

Thanks so much!

Exclamation - My Urethra Hurts - UTI? URethra hurty

IT felt like something hard poking me in side my urethra. Like a thick wire and it burned...
Urgency
Low output,

One night I was laying in bed and I realized the pain was not constant well a certain level was....and I realized it was peaking in waves... like a contraction and that got me thinking spasm... as soon as I used that word.. she put me ont he right med.

Also I was peeing out black specks of dried blood....

My pain mngt said it was probably my urethral walls sloughing from the spasming...

Good luck and I hope this helps.

My Urethra Hurts - UTI?

I have never heard of stretching the urethra... sounds odd....but it would make sense that might cause a spasm....

and I have been seeing urologist for over 6 years now...same one.

I'm having that trouble too!

I think I may have IC, but when I do have a flare up I only feel it in the urethra...It is like every 5 minutes I am running to the bathroom!! Did you have the urgency to urinate?
