Yay for being home

Had surgery on 2/11. TAH and BSO. went well and stayed in hospital for 2 days. Got up and walked around a few times the day after. No real issues except occasionally when I get up it feels like someone stuck a hot knife in the left side of my incision-which was the side that hurt the most pre op. I can say that once I feel good it is going to be hard as heck to take it easy. But I will. I promise.

recovery

Had di vinci method total hysterectomy and some lymph nodes removed as my d and c path showed cancer cells. I am 66 and slightly overweight and minimally active so I expected the worst. Surgery was at 8:30 Friday am and I spent the night in the hospital with catheter, iv saline solution and circulation boots. By 7 Saturday am, I was up unhooked and signed out. Then I waited until noon for doctor to say ok.

Some tenderness and the inability to tell if my bladder is full or not. Just go whenever I feel pressure. Have only taken one dose of motrin and that was after the car ride home. The gas pains are my only problem and they are more annoying than painful.

I am thirsty all of the time and drinking lots of water. Also doing slow walks on the treadmill. Seems to be the right way to go.

Well today is day 4 after my surgery. Last night was probably the weirdest night BUT I actually slept several hours at the same time. I had to take a percocet before bed because I was hurting BUT it helped me to sleep thru part of the night.

I am walking around alot better and do not feel as sore. I want to even venture out to the store today to get a few things. I feel soo stuck at home and its not fun.

Had Da Vinci on Friday. Got home from the hospital yesterday. Soreness tolerable but got worse last night, probably from doing too much walking. Today is better. My surgeon said it was a mess in there and that I had definitely made the right decision to get it out. Lots of scar tissue, adhesions and they found fibroids that had not shown up on sonos.

Hi Ladies! It's great to be home. I had my TAH on the 12th at 7am, with some bladder repair. Everything went as expected. I was out of it and slept the day away. On friday I had to train my bladder with my cath in, hold and release it every couple hours. My cath was to come out saturday morning for the pee test! Well, that did not go well. I couldn't go more than 50 cc's and it hurt so bad. They emptied me again with the cath and we tried again a couple hours later. I walked and walked, drank tons of water and still couldn't go. I was so miserable and in such pain. My nurse said I had to go home with the folly. At that point, I didn't care. Anything was better than that pain. I went home on Saturday around 2pm. I slept great last night and have less pain today. My incision is doing great too, no seeping or oozing. I have no bleeding which is awesome! So as it stands now I have my cath in and i'm capping and training my bladder. I have to call docs office tomorrow and go from there. Hope it won't be too long before I can pee on my own. (the things we take for granted)

I will keep you posted. I hope all my sisters are doing well out there ((Hugs))

Had a LATVH with BSO and Bladder sling and rectocele repair on 2/13 7:30am. I had the WORKS. All the nurses kept saying I was going to be a new woman. Went home yesterday afternoon. I am doing incredibly well. Some pain. Taking meds and resting. I think I am having more issues from the bladder sling. It feels like it is pulling. But, doing OK. Thanks for all the WONDERFUL info I received from this site. It has helped me alot. I hope to share with others. God bless.

fitcalchick, Try Miralax for constipation. I have IBS with chronic constipation and so I was very scared of the TAH. I take prescription "miralax/glycolax" regularly and they started it the day after surgery. I had a BM Day 3 and have had no problems. You can get miralax over the counter now. Give it a try, it won't hurt your bowels at all and it works great.

glad to be home

Hi there fitcalchick, i have the same problem with BMs, I have used miralax and works wonders! and you dont get the yuckies like regular laxatives.

So just wanted to say also its day 4 for me, last night was first night i slept 6 hours,,,i have insomnia due to stupid pain meds. i will be out of them today and have some vicadins i can use but will try to not use any. i still have pulling/tugging way up inside by the cervix part-i had my uterus removed, also i went out and did way too much yesterday,

I grabbed the DH and went to a booksale, cause i love to read and never pass up booksales, i had him carry the box and i handed the books to him, my mistake was the boxes under the tables-i supported myself onto my knees and didnt twist but i knew later i did way too much but it was worth it-got some new paperbacks that just came out in the past 6 months without paying alot of money-then went to bank, 2 stores for one stupid nightgown cause the pants are buggin me at the waist-ended up buying huge pants with drawstring but still wanted the stupid nightgown.

Today i payed for the pain i did yesterday-i posted earier about pain in the regular forem and finally got it under control-took extra ibreprofin and tylonel but now i have gas pains...i am walking a bit but hurts everytime i take a step-i will have to get back in the car and have DH drive me to walmart for gasx-last time i went i couldnt find the stupid stuff....and for constipation i just been drinking tons of prune juice-3 glasses already and still no results....so hopefully soon.

The other thing is i have small apetite-just thirsty-been watching king of the hill on DVD, bought all 6 seasons in one package on amazon for $104 so thats cheap entertainment to me.

Well looks like i typed a long enough post, getting ready to walk some more, have more prune juice and settle in for the night, tomorrow off to sears to buy a stupid nightgown, no one has anything decent anymore-i dont like the flimsy thin cotton ones...yeah i am picky but hey its all about pampering the

hi ladies, thank you for all your posts. i am on day 6 and so far am having more distress with the bowel issues than the actual surgery site. i decided to wein off pain meds in hopes of regulating my digestive system since pain is no worse than my period in fact my period/endometriosis was worse. i took softners on day 3, 4, and with no joy ended up using suppositories that initiated a small movements on days 4 and 5. thus far day 4 and today, 6 are my worse and all due to bloating, gas and overall digestive discomfort. i have switched diet to fruit/fibre and am drinking loads of water, prune juice, cranberry. i am not over doing it though did walk up stairs slowly yesterday and my husband suspects todays distress/exhaustion may have to do with that. i am sorry so many have bm issues but it is reassuring to share this wonderful information, my friends are now having fun with me since they have always known i am full of you know what ha, ha. i did call nurse friday/day 4 and she said for me to try milk of magnesia if softners/suppositories did not help. i also have some spot bleeding from my belly button incision, i think it popped open from my hospital bed that bends me or perhaps a cough. also i have had shallow breathing issues and am afraid to deep breath as i cough, we may move flowers out of bedroom since it may be allergies. i was told that i would have a bad day after a bunch of good ones and indeed that seems to be the case. i wish all happy healing.
