instant menopause despite one ovary
It had not to occured to either my doctor or myself that it mattered which ovary to remove when we decided he would remove only one to avoid instant onset menopause. What a shock to begin the first night home with a night sweat and regular hot flashes. When we discussed it a week later at the visit where I was alarmed by the intense constipation symptoms, he looked perplexed repeating ovaries do not usually work independently. Yet, how to explain my instant symptoms. However, I have learned since that discussion if the blood supply has been previously interrupted due to other causes this ovary could have been inactive all along. I had a tubal ligation 13 years previous and an invasive abdominal gallbladder surgery 22 years ago causing lots of scarring in the area of this particular ovary, the reason he later admitted he chose to remove the other one. Interesting...what do you think? Could it be menopaause or a reaction to the medications used in surgery?
