Almost at the 2 week mark

Well, on Monday I will be two weeks post op. I know that at that point I can begin driving, and have a bath instead of a shower. I'm also hoping I can do the stairs more than twice a day. What else can I start doing once I hit the two week recovery mark? I'm not really in any pain now. This is probably because I spend my days sitting/laying on my bed, being waited on!

Same Surgery Date

Hi slb,

My name is Michelle I too had surgery the same day as you. I'm starting to feel good still have a little sharp pain on left side of incision kinda of a burning feeling when I get up from sitting. I had a TAH kept ovaries. My stay in the hosp. was pleasant the nurses where very nice the only thing that bothered me was when they would have to come in and check my vidals every 3 to 4 hours and would wake me up out of a good sleep. Thank god for my family and better half they have been such a big help around the house. I've been getting plenty of rest. I hope your recovery is going well. If you need anyone to talk to E- mail me, it would be nice
God Bless,
Michelle

Almost at the 2 week mark

Hi Sandy,

The days when your internal stitches start dissolving are just around the corner, so resist the temptation to start resuming all activities just because you "feel good". The early recovery period for this surgery is 6-8 weeks long, so please continue to allow your sweet family to wait on you for awhile longer yet. Avoid anything that involves lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, or reaching. Please call your Dr. for more specific advice...he did your surgery, and knows best what you can be cleared for. I just gave you my feelings based on my experience and those of others here.

My very best to you...

Linda

Almost at the 2 week mark

Dear Sandy,

SO happy to hear you're doing well. I remember some of your posts before your surgery and am glad you have it behind you! My doctor didn't really give me any more leeway at my two week check up. He said I could drive, of course, but to still take it really easy, NO lifting, NO intercourse, NO overdoing it. He told me to expect to be tired for up to 6 months, but that I was healing well.

I am now 4 weeks post-op, and pretty much doing my life, except for heavy work (vaccuuming, mopping, carrying laundry, etc.). I have been working a little, on my schedule, and getting the kids ready for school with some shopping. Have really enjoyed just slowing down and savoring these last days of summer.

Best of luck with your recovery! Relax and enjoy!

Becky B.

Almost at the 2 week mark

Thanks for the replies. I haven't got a two week check-up, just a four week one. I guess after the two week mark I'll just gradually work my way into life again. I'm dying to do some baking, but that would include lifting the flour and sugars down to the counter. Maybe I will put them there and leave them there until the six week mark! I'm planning to stay home from church for a bit yet - sitting on the hard pews may be asking for it.

Almost at the 2 week mark

Sandy,

I'm a regular church-goer, but I didn't rush to go back...I waited a few weeks. Another thing to consider is that after your surgery, your resistance to viruses will be lower for awhile, and you could pick up a bug while in a crowd of people. Better to wait until you can build up some strength.

My very best to you...

Linda

2 weeks after

Hi All,

I had my surgery on the 10th of August so I know how you are feeling. I am having sharp pains in my stomach also, right where the stitches are at...maybe a little lower. Anyway, I went to the dr. last thursday for my stitches to be removed and he said No doing dishes, sex, or anything for the next 2 weeks. I have had it rough with this pain. I didn't think it would be so bad. The sharp pains that run thru your stomach are terrible and the insomina is terrible. The dr said to use tylenol pm...no use...didnt' work...even after taking 4 of them. The last 3 nights I;ve had 9 hrs total of sleep. I'm on hormones also for hot flashes...its called cenesten 0.625mg and also have already been on synthyroid 1.75mg. I wonder if this could be interferring with my sleep...anyone know?

Well, I'll post again soon...Thanks for listening.

two week post-op

My doctor told me I can now lift twenty pounds. I did not get an answer on what type of exercise I can do. Up to now, I have been going for walks. I was also told I could do stairs as soon as I got home, if there's a railing. And, I could take a bath after one week, when I could also remove the steri-strips he put on in the hospital when the staples came out. I guess every doc is different. Mine seems pretty liberal. I do what I feel I can manage. Actually, as of today, I am 22 days post-op. I vaccumed the other day with no pain. I am glad you are doing so well. Just don't rush too much. I count my blessings every day that I am a "quick recoverer".
God Bless!!
