Urethral Sling, anyone???

My TVH, cystocele and rectocel repair, and URETHRAL SLING was performed 2/10. I can still feel the pull of the interior stitches, but the worst pain is from the sling incision! It stings and it is as hard as a rock! I read about the body's rejection of the synthetic sling. I also worry that the sling may have been unnecessary once the prolapsed uterus and cystocele were eliminated. Has anyone had this done? Am I expecting too much 12 days post op?

Urethral Sling, anyone???

Hi, I am almost 4 wks post op and had a TVT done, not quite the same, however, I have a ton of pubic pulling and soreness still. I have one lump lbelow the incision (there were two and one went away). I think it can take awhile to heal around the material and wouldn't be concerned yet, but defintely bring it up to your doctor when you see him next.

Thanks! It is great to hear from someone experiencing the same symptoms. Do you notice the presence of the sling? Has it helped?

I had the sling too. I think that when the uterus is removed the bladder can fall down into the space where the uterus was, especially if you have cystocoele repair. If you had any sort of stress incontinence before then the hysterectomy can make it worse, that's why they do the TVT.

I didn't have any probs with the TVT but I did feel 'crampy' like pains for a while after it. I had 2 tiny incisions just at the top of the labia, near the pubic bone. I think they actually drilled a couple of holes through the pubic bone to pass the sling through! Gross, I know!

You are still in the early phases of healing and you will feel unusual sensations. If it bothers you, let your doc know. Most docs feel that if it is bothering you, it bothers them. I, however, had no discomfort after mine. I took it easy and followed instructions. Remember to rest often and take care of yourself. Best wishes!

Thanks, Farrah! I know I am probably just impatient. It's just that the incisions for the sling feel so strange. I realize that rest is the key to recovery. I needed someone to remind me though! I hope you are feeling well today! Phister

Hey Physter, I also had a sling to correct the prolapse along with my tah. My two incision points for the sling were also rock hard and are still pretty firm 4 and 1/2 weeks out (surgery was January 22). Just make sure you are patient when urinating (no pushing to get that last drop!) and protect your abs, don't sit up using those muscles yet, hopefully that will help a bit with some of that pain. I found doing these simple things really helps me. As far as whether is was necessary or not to have the sling I also worried about that, but mine seems successful so far and being able to sneeze without crossing my legs is great! I hope this helps, hang in there, it does get better!

Urethral Sling, anyone???

Dear Alikat,

Please stay in touch with me over the next few weeks (months?). I have read soooo many horror stories about the "sling" that I am freaking out! I am sure I am only reading the problems cases. There are supposedly over 1.5 million women who have had this procedure. I just don't want anything else to go wrong after all of that surgery! Thanks!!!!!

Hi I didnt have a sling but I did have a Burch procedure, its use of stitches and not a sling to attach the urethra to the pelvic wall.. IT was put in too tight and I still have voiding issues.. I hope it relaxes one day soon, its been over 18 months! You are still in the healing phase, if you do have any concerns call the DR thats what they are there for.. and keep a journal of your pains and feelings in each area.. what you feel now may be far different from next month. In reading my old posts here.. I see man o man that happen to me? I dont even remember it till I read it.. so writing it down sure helps with telling the DR the turn of events you have gone through.. GOOD LUCK
