Is this normal? How can I have discharge with no uterus ? Is anyone experiencing this? After surgery, I am left with 1 overy and my cervix. I have had no discharge till now, it is a small amount but seems strange to me. Any shed light on the subject would be appreciated thanks!

With an ovary and a cervix some women get a monthly bleed but as this is so long after surgery and your first bleed I would suggest a visit to your Gyn to get this checked out.

I am sure it is nothing to get worried about but it will put your mind at rest.

it could be from ovulation (i spot sometimes when i ovulate), it could be a strange month where you get a mini-period, or could be an infection. you should probably let your dr know and maybe have a pap. have you had one since your surgery?

Thanks for the quick reply, I had a pap ,a couple of them actually just before my surgery 11 months ago and have an app. for one at the end of march. I will phone my obgyn's office on Monday, as is always the case concerns like this happen just before I leave on vacation, so I better ease my mind.

You may have a piece of your cervic left and with your ovary you do ovulate. It could possible be an infection but if its brownish I doubt it. I would definately check with your doctor.

Gino- The cervix is lined with the same endometrial tissue that lines the uterus. It is this tissue that builds up and sheds with our periods each cycle. When you cervix is retained after a partial hysterectomy you can still possibly have a mini period post surgery. In your case it may just be starting to shed again or built up enough to shed. The brownish color indicates "old" blood not fresh blood. I would be more concerned with bright red "fresh" blood or enough pad to fill a pad.

Oh my word, do you mean to tell me since I kept my cervix that I am going to bleed or have a discharge now? I will freak slap out if that is the case!!! I just had my surgery on Feb 17th and I am sick of this discharge stuff now. I am sick to death of pads. I had my hysterectomy because of excessive bleeding every two weeks or sometimes even sooner. Having to wear pads all the time is very irritating to me. Plus it messes with your sex life badly.
I will freak out if I have finally had this surgery and now I am still going to have something leaking out.

Why do some docs keep cervixs and some dont?

Yes if you keep your cervix, you can experience what they call "mini- periods". You will still experience some bleeding, but it shouldn't be as heavy or as much as it was before. That doesn't mean that it will happen every month and it could just stop and never come back again. But there is a chance of it happening. My Dr. gave me the choice of keeping mine or removing it. I choose to have mine removed because of these odds and I also didn't want to have to go through the pap smears all the time. Everyone does what they feel is best for them with all the info they get from there Dr's.

From what I've heard and researched, most docs routinely take both the uterus and the cervix. Not sure why some chose not to, unless in their opinion it's easier to recover from surgery and they don't have to create a vaginal cuff if the cervix remains intact. Another thing about leaving the cervix you will still have to have annual paps because you are still at risk for cervial cancer. My doc didn't give me a choice he said he never leaves the cervix.

Some women may not experience "mini" periods but it is a real possibility that if the cervix remains you can have them.

Well man I wish someone would have told me this...if this happens to me...mine is coming out. Im not going to go through all of this to get rid of these annoying periods...only to have them replaced by something else...that defeats the purpose if you ask me.
