Post - Urodynamic testing Urodynamic testing

Never had a catheter in before. Did you find this painful when they placed it in the first time?

I don't have a major problem urinating, but sometimes I have leakage with a sneeze, or shouting (like at a game)

Just wondering if the TVT is worth having if my problem isn't a major one.

And two, when I have the hysterectomy to remove uterus, should this help correct the problem?

Don't know if I should go through with this testing. Doctor said this is available if I want to treat it...and since I will be under, why not have it done at the same time.....if it's not too painful to have.

THanks for the advice ...appreciate it..

Urodynamic testing

I had urodynamic testing done in December, because of leakage during sneezing, coughing, etc. The catheter did not hurt when put in place, I had more issues with going in with a full bladder and not being able to empty it until in the office to measure the amount of urine in the bladder.

I had a TVH w/TOT and Posterir repairs on 1/27/2009, and boy am I glad I did...no leaking at all! From what I was told, the leaking will only get worse. So being put under I opted to have everything done at once.

Urodynamic testing

SW Florida, not sure if you still need any info on this one. I thought I was leaking urine with my prolapse, and would have bet money that I needed bladder repair also.

But my dr found with the urodynamics testing that I did NOT have any leakage. What he thinks was happening was my ill fitting pessary was causing a vaginal discharge.

The catheter wasn' t fun, but I wouldn't call it painful. Feels like a pinch, and since I've never been pinched down there, I did not like it!

If you need bladder repair, it can be done at the same time as the hysterectomy. Kills two birds with one stone!

My dr did say that he can't promise I won't have bladder problems later, after the LSH.

This may too late to give you any info if you already decided yes or no on the test!

Urodynamic testing

The urodynamics study may be helpful in your decision as it can help determine the type of incontinence the woman is experiencing. My initial urodynamic study before I had my hyst was borderline. At that time, I opted not to have the bladder repairs - hoping that removing the heavy fibroid uterus would help. It did for a while, then I later developed a cystocele and urethrocele.

Fast forward a few years and I flunked my second urodynamic study big time. By then, my incontinence was a daily problem and I knew the time was right to have the repairs.

I think the urodynamic study is a valuable tool in deciding what is right and whether or not you may be a candidate for surgical correction, but if your leakage is mild or infrequent and not a major problem, then perhaps the timing isn't right. Take your time with your decision and be sure to obtain a second opinion or two. (You're worth it. )

Urodynamic testing

I don't have many issues with leaking and such, but occasionally have some when sneezing or sudden unexpected cough. I had the urodynamic testing, and almost through the whole test, I had no leaks! Then they made me stand up, and used an instrument to hold my bladder into 'normal' position, and once I coughed and strains it came spurting out! That told the doctor I will need a sling.

Princess,

Thank you for your comment...Question: when they placed the catheter in, did it "hurt?" Did you feel uncomfortable? Your story sounds like my situation. I haven't had it yet, but it sounds like it would be similiar.

SW, it was not really painful at all. A little burn when they took it out.. on a scale of 1-10 it was a 1 for me. Best Wishes!!

Just had this on Thursday

I am scheduled to have a LSH with a TVT on Tuesday.

I had this test on Thursday....surpised it didn't hurt just was weird.

My Dr. had me totally empty my bladder, inserted the cath then filled my bladder with saline solution to see how large/mushc I could hold.

After measuring that he removed about 1/2 the fluid to do the cough test.
He removed the cath and asked me to cough.
I sprayed him! Needless to say I failed the test so I will be having the TVT as well.
He was able to show me how it would be once the TVT was in place. I coughed again and nothing.

I'm hoping that this will be good for me. I have had to wear a pad since the birth of my first daughter 20 years ago. Both births were c-sections but extra large babies.

I will post as to how my surgery goes once I'm home.

Good luck to you on the test....if you decided to take it.

Ok I thought the cath hurt like heck! It was awful they put two different ones in the first one was ok (okish) the second one was awful they had to put it about 6 or 7 times because it kept reading to high on the computer, I was crying by the time I left walked right out and took a percocet. But I did learn that I have BOO (haha right?) Bladder Outlet Obstruction, but so far nothing they have put me on has helped much...Good Luck!
