Surgery Rescheduled
A week ago yesterday due to increasing and almost debilitating endo pain my doctor scheduled my TAH for Monday the 23rd (2 days ago). I spent last week, through the pain, preparing for 6 weeks off of work as a teacher, creating lesson plans, finding a sub, taking care of my 3 year old son with a fever of 102, etc, etc. Spent Sunday going through the bowel prep, got to the hospital Monday morning got the IV, blood work, vitals, etc. anesthesiologist comes in and says I have a fever of 99 and he isn't comfortable putting me under.
So here I am at home in pain, on anitibiotics, waiting another week for surgery. I understand the reasoning to putting off the surgery, better to be safe than sorry, but it is so frustrating.
So my suggestion to you all, don't try to be super woman the week before surgery. Slow down and take care of yourself. Don't find yourself in my position, worn down, sick with a rescheduled surgery. Be good to yourself!

Surgery Rescheduled
Oh, erinjane, this sounds so frustrating. It is so hard to prepare the various parts of our lives for surgery, and to have to reschedule would be so hard. You offer good advice, although sometimes there's just no way to avoid being ill. Meanwhile, I hope you are starting to learn how to so you're all set for next week.

thanks for the good advice..... its so hard to stay well when you have a sick child though...all the waiting on them you have to do....... you can't really avoid them like a sick husband.....
my youngest that lives with me is 16 years old and i had to wait on him hand and foot a couple of weeks ago..he was so sick with the flu.. he missed a whole week of school.........
but yeah i have been running around trying to prepare too...i think i will start just doing what needs to be done each day and let the rest of the stuff just go (like the mildew on the shower floor corners)........
long as i don't fall down in the shower after surgery..i should be fine.. the seat and the walls are clean right? good enough for me......
huuuuugggggggssssssss hope you feel better soon.. sorry you had to go through the bowel prep and all that first....

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that you have to wait all over again. I can only imagine what that must feel like. I feel as though I have been waiting an eternity already and I sill have until the 19th of March to go! Thanks for sharing your story though, I will remember to not get too caught up in running that entire week before...hang in there : )

Surgery Rescheduled
Erinjane, the same thing happened to me except my was the sick one. I had to wait 3 weeks before they could get me rescheduled. I didn't know how to feel because I was so pumped up. It was kind of like going in to have a baby and finding out it was just false labor. I was kind of let down.
I always have the thought that things happen when they are suppossed to. So, when you have your surgery you will be healthy and your body more able to heal efficiently.
BTW, my told me later that the day I was suppossed to have the original surgery there was an out break of Norovirus and 23 staff members got it, so I felt pretty lucky at that point that I wasn't there.
Enjoy your next week and maybe some of the fear is gone because you know what to expect when you check in at the castle.
Get well and God bless

Surgery Rescheduled
I just got a phone call from my doctor's office, and was sitting here feeling so bummed! Now, I don't feel quite so bad. I am sorry you have to go through the anxiety and stress for another week. I was doing well in that department until yesterday, when DH and I went out to buy the groceries to stock up the house. Now, the anxiety is rising. Then, first thing this morning, I get a phone call from the doctor's office. The are pushing my surgery back, from 9:30 to 11:00. Apparently, some one with diabetes needs to be bumped up to the "front of the line". I was all pumped up for getting up so early, to be at the hospital for 6:30! Now, I have to be there for 8:00, which means I will see all of my kids before I go, as they get ready for school. Not sure if that will up their stress level or not. I'm thinking it will for my DD, who is only 11. PLUS..........having nothing to eat from midnight on didn't seem so bad when surgery was 9:30, but moving it to 11:00, I can just hear my tummy growling already!!
However, my time set back is nothing like a whole week setback! Best of luck to you as you get well enough to make your trip to the castle!!

Surgery Rescheduled
I am with you on the waiting thing. I came down with what my daughter had about a week and a half ago and now I am trying to do everything I can to get better before Monday when I go in. Saw the gp and he gave me antibiotics and steroids. I will be so upset if I have to reschedule. I had to wait 10 weeks for this surgery date.
