Leg Pain 2 weeks post-op, anyone dealing with this?

So I'm 2 weeks post-op and so far my recovery has been great. I'm still not driving because I don't know if I should yet. I feel pulling in my belly button area but I'm not spotting so I'm not worried. HOWEVER, my right leg is killing me. It started about 3 or 4 days ago, just slight pain running down the back of my right leg. Today, it's gotten progressively worse. It starts in the middle of my right bum cheek and goes the entire way down to my ankle and my foot feels like it's got a crampy charlie horse in it. Even the RIGHT side of my vagina feels like there's pressure....is anyone having this problem? I think I'm going to have to start taking my pain meds again just for this. HELP! I hate to call my doc's office for this because it seems to be muscular. I guess I'm just frustrated. I guess I'm trying to save a call to my doc for an emergency if necessary (hopefully won't need to). I'm looking for answers!

Thanks,

Melissa

Hi Melissa
You should call the doctor because you may have a blood clot. Your description does not sound 'textbook' but every ones description can be different. The fact it is still progressing is a reason to call. It is up to the doctor to decide. Give them a call to be safe.

I was thinking it was my sciatic nerve but I'm starting to wonder about a blood clot. I was trying to fish through the site for info about blood clots but can't find anything yet.

Thank you for your reply!

Here's a link to an article about blood clots post op. I hope it helps.

http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_207656.htm

I had a DVT at 3 weeks post op. My only symptom was pain in my inner thigh.

It's always a good idea to report any new pain to the doctor.

Hi Melissa
It could be sciatic nerve, piriformis or obturator internus but just be safe, call the doc and then do your research. Keep in mind we lose perspective when we are dealing with ourselves. Or at least I do.

Thank you ladies....I have a call into the 'on-call' doc and I'm waiting for him to call me back. In the meantime, I will read and research the information you both gave me.

Thanks so much

Hi Melissa, Sorry you're experiencing that, sounds painful. Not long after my hyst I had pain in my legs (along with swelling waist down, which you haven't mentioned) and apparently my deal is lymphedema. But to make sure that it wasn't a blood clot my doc sent me to my nearest hospital to have an ultrasound done, his nurse say if a blood clot is suspected they want to have testing done pretty quick to find out. My ultrasounds (hips down to feet) just showed fluid, no clots. Hope all is okay with you, just wanted to share how my doc decided to go about searching for blood clots.

Thanks Hope and Kinta,

The on-call doc called me back at 11:00 pm last night (woke me up) and I explained my pain. She said it's definitely my sciatica for the fact that it starts in my butt cheek and goes the whole way to my ankle. She said she sees this a lot and it's due to the way the surgeon positions your legs during the operation. She told me it could last up to two weeks. Aw man! Now I guess I should go search for ways to relieve sciatica pain. She told me to take Motrin (which I still have from my pain meds) and use heat or basically whatever makes it feel better. I'm glad I called them yesterday so I can rest easy now. I'm tellin' you, I feel like I'm going backwards as far as progress because I started out so good.

Thanks again!

Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Glad to hear your doc got back to you and no worries about blood clots. But sorry to hear that you've got to deal with that pain, I hope your motrin works. I don't know much about other methods to relieve that kind of pain, but I'm sure a google search would turn up suggestions.

I know what you mean about starting out great and going backwards, I am hoping this is your only step backwards and it's a tiny one and gets better very soon!
