21 days post op not feeling so good
Hi all, I am just over 21 days post op after LSH. Thought I had got away with the usual set backs and previously I have posted my progress and have been feeling really good until now!
On day 20 -21 I started feeling lethargic, anxious and miserable and burst into tears occasionally and seem to have strong period like pains, this would be the time my period would be due so I am wondering if any other sisters have experienced this?
I have had hardly any abdominal swelling, now I have swelling and discomfort and also a darker discharge that would normally appear before my period.
I have been taking it easy and don't feel that I have over done it at all, I have prepared myself for these days and I think that because I had done so well it is harder for me to take - so frustrating!
The logical side of me understands the hormonal issues relating to any hysterectomy even though I have still retained my ovaries I think they are probably confused, I think the body is prepaing for a period and because I have still got my cervix this is what is causing the discomfort, the irrational side of me is fed up as the idea of having this procedure was to stop the darn pain shrug:
Any sisters had any of experience of this?

Yes. Hopefully you are like me and those period pains lessen with each cycle. You are not really having a setback but rather are experiencing normal healing. It sounds like your stitches are dissolving, which can trigger a new round of swelling as well as the brown discharge. I had that from day sixteen to about week six. I had good luck with an over-the-counter progesterone cream. That is the hormone that is deficient those first weeks post-op when you still have your ovaries. It is frustrating, but when your ovaries get back to functioning after the shock of surgery, you will feel so much better. It took me about three and a half months to truly feel like myself again. Best wishes to you Ceepha.

21 days post op not feeling so good
Hi cmtsp, thanks for the quick response. its so good to hear I'm not alone! Your right, its not a setback just part of the process. I'm glad to hear that you feel better now and it's not forever which is a positive.
I'm normally a rational and fairly level headed person but feeling like this makes me vulnerable and sensitive which I hate! So I suppose its almost like PMS horrible but short lived.
Regarding the internal healing I think your right, it's amazing what the body has to do inside to repair, which is what zaps you energy levels.
Thanks for the response I feel better sharing how I feel.
Take care

Hi Ceepha,
I also had a LSH.
From being on Hyster Sisters, I have read posts and it can be normal to have some spotting for up to (6) weeks post-op after a LSH. Some ladies report spotting right after their hyst and some can start several weeks later.
And as Cmtsp replied...stitiches start to dissolve also. In my first (6) weeks post op, I had ~healing twinges~ as I called them. Some slight discomfort around my cervix area. After I finished my prescription meds, I used OTC tylenol to help with any mild discomfort.
In post-op, I found with my LSH... that I might have a really great day followed by a not-so-good day. A two steps forward..one step back kind of thing. And looking back today...I feel I had a textbook recovery. So...just listen to your body and give it time. A LSH is a less invasive hyst and it is *major* surgery. Your body is healing at its own speed..and that is A-okay!!
Sending best wishes~
Mary
