a bit of pre-op humor :)

I am constantly telling my husband about HysterSisters and all the things I am learning at this site. Yesterday I was explaining about the abbreviations for my upcoming surgery. I said "I'll be having a TVH-BSO with A and P repairs." He replied "Oh yeah? Well, I'm having a BLT-hold the mayo!"

How cute!! I find humour is one of the best things we have to help us through stressful situations like this! My gyne was much the same as he was describing to me what to expect for my surgery. His version went like this:
"Monday morning, you will have your surgery, and I'll just let you lie in bed all day. Tuesday the catheter will come out, and the nurses will get you up. Wednesday, the IV comes out, and Thursday, you go home. Oh, and the best part?? You get JELL-O for supper on Monday!!"
I feel so blessed that I have a doctor that I can be so comfortable with. He has often teased me with a nursery rhyme, calling me "Mary, Mary, quite contrary", every time he walks in with my chart in his hand. I am sure he will stop off to say hi to me, as I wait in the OR holding room. He will likely have some little quip for me, to help put me at ease.

I just can't wait for the waiting to be over!!

I was at the pre-op at the hospital and the nurse was going through the list what to bring and what not. When talking about money she said not to bring any, but if I have to, 10 dollars is just fine, no credit cards or check book. Then in a very matter of fact way she continued "shopping really is not very good around here, and you will be busy with other things anyway". I thought it was really funny, in that dry sarcastic way.

I know! They said to not bring anything, but I was thinking: what if you don't bring what I want!!! Like coffee or a cup of tea! They want me to walk afterward, so what about a trip to the snack bar!

I think they think I am nuts.
